Abstract

A mounting device includes a panel portion, and a fastener receiving structure provided within a perimeter of the panel portion. The fastener receiving structure can include an aperture to receive an insertive fastener, and a flexure mechanism to enable at least a portion of the fastener receiving structure that includes the aperture to flex with insertion of the fastener in the aperture that attaches the panel portion against an underlying surface.

Claims (32)

1. A mounting device comprising:

a panel portion; and

a fastener receiving structure provided within a perimeter of the panel portion, the fastener receiving structure including a flexure mechanism that defines an aperture, the flexure mechanism enabling the fastener receiving structure to flex with insertion of a fastener in the aperture that attaches the panel portion to an underlying surface;

wherein the fastener receiving structure is separately formed from the panel portion;

wherein the flexure mechanism comprises one or more flexure arms that flex to enable the flexure mechanism to flex upon insertion of the fastener; and

wherein the one or more flexure arms are arranged as a corkscrew defining one or more slits, the one or more flexure arms extending from an interior perimeter interface of the panel portion to a ring structure that defines the aperture.

2. The mounting device of claim 1 , wherein the flexure mechanism enables a portion of the fastener receiving structure to flex to accommodate the fastener being over-inserted into the aperture.

3. The mounting device of claim 1 , wherein the ring structure travels inward along with the one or more flexure arms with insertion of the fastener.

4. The mounting device of claim 1 , wherein the flexure mechanism comprises a failure rib attaching a specified flexure arm of the one or more flexure arms to the interior perimeter interface, the failure rib being structured to snap when the specified flexure arm flexes inward beyond a designated threshold during insertion of the fastener.

5. The mounting device of claim 4 , wherein the failure rib is configured to provide an audible feedback when snapped.

6. The mounting device of claim 1 , wherein the fastener receiving structure is comprised of a different material than a material of the panel portion.

7. The mounting device of claim 6 , wherein the material of the of the panel portion comprises plastic, and wherein the different material of the fastener receiving structure comprises metal.

8. The mounting device of claim 1 , wherein the mounting device mates with an electrical junction box, the electrical junction box including main wiring of a dwelling.

9. The mounting device of claim 8 , wherein the panel portion comprises an electrical mating interface that includes one or more electrical connectors that electrically couple the mounting device to a corresponding set of electrical connectors of an electronic module, and wherein a front façade of the electrical mating interface includes a plunger coupled to a safety switch, the safety switch being disposed between the one or more electrical connectors of the electrical mating interface and the main wiring of the dwelling.

10. The mounting device of claim 9 , wherein the plunger depresses and closes the safety switch upon coupling of the electronic module to the electrical mating interface, and wherein closing the safety switch electrically couples the main wiring of the dwelling to the electronic module.

11. An electronic assembly comprising:

a mounting device comprising:

a panel portion;

a fastener receiving structure provided within a perimeter of the panel portion, the fastener receiving structure including a flexure mechanism that defines an aperture, the flexure mechanism enabling the fastener receiving structure to flex with insertion of a fastener in the aperture that attaches the panel portion to an underlying surface; and

a set of coupling features on a front façade of the mounting device; and

an electronic module comprising a corresponding set of coupling features to couple the electronic module to the set of coupling features of the mounting device.

12. The electronic assembly of claim 11 , wherein the set of coupling features on the front façade of the mounting device include one or more electrical connectors to electrically couple to a corresponding set of one or more electrical connectors of the electronic module, and wherein the front façade of the mounting device further includes a plunger coupled to a safety switch, the safety switch being disposed between the one or more electrical connectors of the mounting device and main wiring of a dwelling.

13. The electronic assembly of claim 12 , wherein the plunger depresses and closes the safety switch upon coupling the electronic module to the mounting device, and wherein closing the safety switch electrically couples the main wiring of the dwelling to the electronic module.

14. The electronic assembly of claim 12 , wherein the electronic module further comprises (i) a camera disposed on a front façade of the electronic module, and (ii) a faceplate that includes a shutter mechanism configured to operate between an open state in which the camera is exposed and a closed state that blocks the camera.

15. The electronic assembly of claim 14 , wherein the shutter mechanism comprises a shutter slider disposed laterally to the camera at a same horizontal axis, the shutter slider enabling the shutter mechanism to operate between the open state and the closed state.

16. The electronic assembly of claim 14 , wherein the shutter mechanism comprises a shutter slider that includes a pair of slider appendages that operate the shutter mechanism between the open state and the closed state, and wherein each of the pair of slider appendages slide along a different horizontal axis than a horizontal axis corresponding to the camera.

17. A mounting device comprising:

a panel portion; and

a fastener receiving structure provided within a perimeter of the panel portion, the fastener receiving structure including a flexure mechanism that defines an aperture, the flexure mechanism enabling the fastener receiving structure to flex with insertion of a fastener in the aperture that attaches the panel portion to an underlying surface;

wherein the mounting device mates with an electrical junction box, the electrical junction box including main wiring of a dwelling; and

wherein the panel portion comprises an electrical mating interface that includes one or more electrical connectors that electrically couple the mounting device to a corresponding set of electrical connectors of an electronic module, and wherein a front façade of the electrical mating interface includes a plunger coupled to a safety switch, the safety switch being disposed between the one or more electrical connectors of the electrical mating interface and the main wiring of the dwelling.

18. The mounting device of claim 17 , wherein the plunger depresses and closes the safety switch upon coupling of the electronic module to the electrical mating interface, and wherein closing the safety switch electrically couples the main wiring of the dwelling to the electronic module.
