Abstract

Electronic devices with bulk transformable display include a plurality of peripheral elements with planar faces adapted to the movement and rotation around the central element. Each of the peripheral elements has at least one display on its outer face, a contact element group, a microprocessor and a power source. The contact group of said peripheral elements are formed by magnets, adapted to connect adjacent peripheral elements to each other and simultaneously transmitting electrical signals therebetween. The magnets can rotate freely inside the sockets, enabling stable and reliable connection between the peripheral elements.

Claims (61)

1. An electronic device with a transformable volumetric display, comprising:

a central element;

a plurality of peripheral elements disposed around said central element and adapted to the movement and rotation around the central element, each of the peripheral elements comprising

at least one outer face and at least one inner face;

at least one display disposed on said outer face of the peripheral member; and

a contact group disposed on said inner face of said peripheral element;

a microprocessor disposed within said peripheral member;

a power source coupled to said microprocessor and disposed within said peripheral member,

wherein said contact group comprises a magnet, adapted to mutually connect adjacent peripheral elements and to support transmission of the electrical signal therebetween;

wherein said magnet is of spherical shape placed into a socket permitting said magnet rotation about its center;

wherein the inner surface of said socket is of generally spherical shape; and

wherein electrical connection to said magnet is maintained by means of ferromagnetic washer, permitting said magnet to rotate freely in space.

2. The electronic device according to claim 1 , wherein at least two of said outer faces are generally planar and mutually perpendicular.

3. The electronic device according to claim 1 , wherein at least some of said plurality of peripheral elements have three outer faces which are mutually perpendicular with three displays disposed onto them.

4. The electronic device according to claim 1 , wherein said magnet is covered by a protective plate.

5. The electronic device according to claim 4 , wherein said protective plate comprises nonmagnetic conductive material.

6. The electronic device according to claim 4 , wherein said protective plate performs as a spring during the connector actuation and disengagement.

7. The electronic device according to claim 1 , wherein said protective conductive plate is made of brass.

8. The electronic device according to claim 1 , wherein magnets on the inner side of the peripheral element are retained by a ferromagnetic conductor member, connected to said peripheral element.

9. The electronic device according to claim 1 , wherein said magnet is connected to a spiral spring having an inner curl diameter and an outer curl diameter, said inner curl diameter being smaller than the magnet dimension, and said socket comprises an enclosure defined by a truncated cone surface, the diameter of the smaller face of the truncated cone being larger than said inner curl diameter and smaller than the outer curl diameter, retaining the spiral spring and the magnet in disengaged position.

10. The electronic device according to claim 9 , wherein said spiral spring is made of ferromagnetic material.

11. The electronic device according to claim 1 , wherein said magnet is connected to a cylindrical spring having a front-end curl and a plurality of body curls, said front-end curl diameter being smaller than the magnet dimension, and said socket is adapted to maintain immobilized position of the body curl opposing said front-end curl.

12. An electronic device with a transformable volumetric display, comprising:

a central element;

a plurality of peripheral elements disposed around said central element and adapted to the movement and rotation around the central element, each of the peripheral elements comprising

at least one outer face and at least one inner face;

at least one display disposed on said outer face of the peripheral member; and

a contact group disposed on said inner face of said peripheral element;

a microprocessor disposed within said peripheral member;

a power source coupled to said microprocessor and disposed within said peripheral member,

wherein said contact group comprises a magnet, adapted to mutually connect adjacent peripheral elements and to support transmission of the electrical signal therebetween;

wherein said magnet is of spherical shape placed into a socket permitting said magnet rotation about its center, wherein the inner surface of said socket is of generally spherical shape;

wherein said magnet is covered by a protective plate and wherein said protective plate performs as a spring during actuation and disengagement of the connector.

13. The electronic device according to claim 12 , wherein at least two of said outer faces are generally planar and mutually perpendicular.

14. The electronic device according to claim 12 , wherein at least some of said plurality of peripheral elements have three outer faces which are mutually perpendicular with three displays disposed onto them.

15. The electronic device according to claim 12 , wherein electrical connection to said magnet is maintained by means of ferromagnetic washer, permitting said magnet to rotate freely in space.

16. The electronic device according to claim 12 , wherein said protective plate comprises nonmagnetic conductive material.

17. The electronic device according to claim 12 , wherein said magnet is connected to a spiral spring having an inner curl diameter and an outer curl diameter, said inner curl diameter being smaller than the magnet dimension, and

said socket comprises an enclosure defined by a truncated cone surface, the diameter of the smaller face of the truncated cone being larger than said inner curl diameter and smaller than the outer curl diameter, retaining the spiral spring and the magnet in disengaged position.

18. An electronic device with a transformable volumetric display, comprising:
