Abstract

Compositions include dicyandiamide (DCD), N—(N-butyl) Thiophosphoric Triamide (NBPT), and styrene-maleic anhydride copolymer in a solution. Agricultural fertilizer compositions contain the DCD, NBPT and styrene-maleic anhydride copolymer composition in combination with a fertilizer.

Claims (23)

1. A composition for use in agricultural applications comprising:

a. from about 10 to about 25% by weight dicyandiamide (DCD);

b. from about 10 to about 25% by weight N—(N-butyl) Thiophosphoric Triamide (NBPT); and

c. from about 1 to about 20% by weight styrene-maleic anhydride copolymer.

2. The composition of claim 1 , further comprising from about 1 to about 65% by weight dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO).

3. The composition of claim 1 further comprising from about 1 to about 65% by weight monoethanolamine (MEA).

4. The composition of claim 1 , wherein the DCD is present in an amount from about 15 to about 20% by weight.

5. The composition of claim 1 , wherein the NBPT is present in an amount from about 15 to about 20% by weight.

6. The composition of claim 1 comprising:

a. about 17% by weight dicyandiamide (DCD);

b. about 17% by weight N—(N-butyl) Thiophosphoric Triamide (NBPT);

c. from about 1 to about 20% by weight styrene-maleic anhydride copolymer;

d. from about 1 to about 65% by weight dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO); and

e. from about 1 to about 65% by weight monoethanolamine (MEA).

7. A method for reducing the loss of nitrogen by run off and denitrification comprising adding an effective amount of a composition including from about 10 to about 25% by weight dicyandiamide (DCD); from about 10 to about 25% by weight N—(N-butyl) Thiophosphoric Triamide (NBPT); from about 1 to about 20% by weight styrene-maleic anhydride copolymer; from about 1 to about 65% by weight dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO); and from about 1 to about 65% by weight monoethanolamine (MEA) to a fertilizer.

8. The method of claim 7 , wherein the DCD is present in an amount from about 15 to about 20% by weight.

9. The method of claim 7 , wherein the NBPT is present in an amount from about 15 to about 20% by weight.

10. The method of claim 7 , wherein the fertilizer is a liquid fertilizer.

11. The method of claim 7 , wherein the fertilizer is a nitrogen fertilizer.

12. The method of claim 11 , wherein the nitrogen fertilizer is a urea fertilizer.

13. The method of claim 7 , wherein the fertilizer is anhydrous ammonia.

14. The method of claim 7 , wherein the composition is added to the fertilizer before use.

15. The method of claim 14 , wherein the fertilizer is a urea ammonium nitrate fertilizer.
