Abstract

An alignment guide may be provided in the field of view of a camera associated with a mobile device used to capture an image of a check. When the image of the check is within the alignment guide in the field of view, an image may be taken by the camera and provided from the mobile device to a financial institution. The alignment guide may be adjustable at the mobile device. The image capture may be performed automatically by the camera or the mobile device as soon as the image of the check is determined to be within the alignment guide. The check may be deposited in a user's bank account based on the image. Any technique for sending the image to the financial institution may be used.

Claims (71)

1. A mobile device comprising:

a processing circuitry; and

a memory configured to store executable instructions that, when executed, cause the processing circuitry to:

control a display screen to display a field of view projection corresponding to a field of view of a camera;

display an alignment guide in the field of view projection;

determine the alignment guide within the field of view projection aligns with an edge of a document included in the field of view projection;

automatically control the camera to capture an image depicting at least the field of view projection when the alignment guide is determined to align with the edge of the document, wherein the captured image includes a depiction of at least a portion of a financial instrument;

transmit the captured image to a payee user account, wherein the payee user account is accessible by a payee computing device; and

transmit the captured image to a financial institution server for initiating a deposit of funds associated with the financial instrument depicted in the captured image to a payee financial account.

2. The mobile device of claim 1 , wherein the captured image is stored in a first image format; and

the instructions, when executed, further cause the processing circuitry to:

convert the captured image into a second image format that is different from the first image format.

3. The mobile device of claim 1 , wherein the captured image is stored in a first image format; and

the instructions, when executed, further cause the processing circuitry to:

convert the captured image into a second image format that is different from the first image format, wherein the second image format is a grayscale image format.

4. The mobile device of claim 1 , wherein the captured image is stored in a first image format; and

the instructions, when executed, further cause the processing circuitry to:

convert the captured image into a second image format that is different from the first image format, wherein the captured image in the second image format has a smaller file size than the captured image in the first image format.

5. The mobile device of claim 1 , wherein the instructions, when executed, further cause the processing circuitry to:

apply optical character recognition on the captured image; and

extract financial information from the captured image.

6. The mobile device of claim 1 , wherein the instructions, when executed, further cause the processing circuitry to:

transmit the captured image to a server via a communication pathway between the mobile device and the server; and

receive, from the server, a processed image and a confirmation message confirming the processed image includes modifications to the captured image.

7. The mobile device of claim 1 , wherein the instructions, when executed, further cause the processing circuitry to:

crop off at least a portion of the captured image outside the alignment guide.

8. A non-transitory computer-readable medium comprising executable instructions that, when executed, cause a processing circuitry of a mobile device to:

control a display screen to display a field of view projection corresponding to a field of view of a camera;

display an alignment guide in the field of view projection;

determine the alignment guide within the field of view projection aligns with an edge of a document included in the field of view projection;

automatically control the camera to capture an image depicting at least the field of view projection when the alignment guide is determined to align with the edge of the document, wherein the captured image includes a depiction of at least a portion of a financial instrument;

transmit the captured image to a payee user account, wherein the payee user account is accessible by a payee computing device; and

transmit the captured image to a financial institution server for initiating a deposit of funds associated with the financial instrument depicted in the captured image to a payee financial account.

9. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 8 , wherein the captured image is stored in a first image format; and

the instructions, when executed, further cause the processing circuitry to:

convert the captured image into a second image format that is different from the first image format.

10. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 8 , wherein the captured image is stored in a first image format; and

the instructions, when executed, further cause the processing circuitry to:

convert the captured image into a second image format that is different from the first image format, wherein the second image format is a grayscale image format.

11. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 8 , wherein the captured image is stored in a first image format; and

the instructions, when executed, further cause the processing circuitry to:

convert the captured image into a second image format that is different from the first image format, wherein the captured image in the second image format has a smaller file size than the captured image in the first image format.

12. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 8 , wherein the instructions, when executed, further cause the processing circuitry to:

apply optical character recognition on the captured image; and

extract financial information from the captured image.

13. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 8 , wherein the instructions, when executed, further cause the processing circuitry to:

transmit the captured image to a server via a communication pathway between the mobile device and the server; and

receive, from the server, a processed image and a confirmation message confirming the processed image includes modifications to the captured image.

14. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 8 , wherein the instructions, when executed, further cause the processing circuitry to:

crop off at least a portion of the captured image outside the alignment guide.

15. A method comprising:

controlling, by a processing circuitry of a mobile device, a display screen to display a field of view projection corresponding to a field of view of a camera;

displaying, by the processing circuitry, an alignment guide in the field of view projection;

determining, by the processing circuitry, the alignment guide within the field of view projection aligns with an edge of a document included in the field of view projection;

automatically controlling, by the processing circuitry, the camera to capture an image depicting at least the field of view projection when the alignment guide is determined to align with the edge of the document, wherein the captured image includes a depiction of at least a portion of a financial instrument;

transmitting, by the processing circuitry, the captured image to a payee user account, wherein the payee user account is accessible by a payee computing device; and

transmitting, by the processing circuitry, the captured image to a financial institution server for initiating a deposit of funds associated with the financial instrument depicted in the captured image to a payee financial account.

16. The method of claim 15 , wherein the captured image is stored in a first image format; and

the method further comprising:

converting, by the processing circuitry, the captured image into a second image format that is different from the first image format.

17. The method of claim 15 , wherein the captured image is stored in a first image format; and

the method further comprising:

converting, by the processing circuitry, the captured image into a second image format that is different from the first image format, wherein the second image format is a grayscale image format.

18. The method of claim 15 , wherein the captured image is stored in a first image format; and

the method further comprising:

converting, by the processing circuitry, the captured image into a second image format that is different from the first image format, wherein the captured image in the second image format has a smaller file size than the captured image in the first image format.

19. The method of claim 15 , further comprising:

applying, by the processing circuitry, optical character recognition on the captured image; and

extracting, by the processing circuitry, financial information from the captured image.

20. The method of claim 15 , further comprising:

cropping off, by the processing circuitry, at least a portion of the captured image outside the alignment guide.
