Abstract

A method may include accessing a terminal branch of an ophthalmic artery through a face of a subject. Additionally, the method may include positioning a device within the ophthalmic artery of the subject and treating at least one of a blockage, a stenosis, a lesion, plaque or other physiology in at least one of the ophthalmic artery or a junction between an internal carotid artery and the ophthalmic artery.

Claims (27)

1. A method, comprising:

accessing a first artery in a head of a subject by inserting a first device through skin on the head and into the first artery;

positioning a second device within a second artery of the subject via the first artery, wherein the second artery comprises an ophthalmic artery of the subject; and

treating at least one of a blockage, a stenosis, a lesion, plaque, or other physiology in at least one of the ophthalmic artery and a junction between an internal carotid artery and the ophthalmic artery.

2. The method of claim 1 , further including inducing retrograde blood flow in the ophthalmic artery.

3. The method of claim 1 , wherein the treating includes increasing a blood flow rate in the ophthalmic artery.

4. The method of claim 1 , wherein the treating includes increasing a size of the at least one of the ophthalmic artery and the junction between the internal carotid artery and the ophthalmic artery.

5. The method of claim 4 , wherein the increasing the size of the at least one of the ophthalmic artery and the junction between the internal carotid artery and the ophthalmic artery includes removing material.

6. The method of claim 4 , wherein the increasing the size of the at least one of the ophthalmic artery and the junction between the internal carotid artery and the ophthalmic artery includes using a balloon in a balloon dilation procedure.

7. The method of claim 1 , further including measuring a blood flow rate in the ophthalmic artery.

8. The method of claim 7 , wherein the measuring the blood flow rate in the ophthalmic artery includes at least one of measuring a linear blood flow rate or a volumetric blood flow rate.

9. The method of claim 1 , further including stopping antegrade blood flow in the ophthalmic artery.

10. The method of claim 1 , wherein accessing the first artery in the head of the subject includes accessing the first artery through a facial skin of the subject.

11. The method of claim 1 , wherein the accessing the first artery in the head of the subject includes accessing a supraorbital artery or a supratrochlear artery of the subject.

12. A method, comprising:

positioning a first device in a first artery in a head of a subject by inserting the first device through skin on the head and into the first artery;

positioning a second device within a second artery of the subject via the first artery, wherein the second artery comprises an ophthalmic artery of the subject;

stopping antegrade flow in the ophthalmic artery; and

treating at least one of a blockage, a stenosis, a lesion, plaque, or other physiology in at least one of the ophthalmic artery or a junction between an internal carotid artery and the ophthalmic artery.

13. The method of claim 12 , further including inducing retrograde blood flow in the ophthalmic artery.

14. The method of claim 12 , wherein the positioning the first device in the first artery in the head of the subject includes positioning the first device in at least one of a supraorbital artery or a supratrochlear artery of the subject.

15. The method of claim 12 , wherein the treating includes increasing a blood flow rate in the ophthalmic artery.

16. The method of claim 15 , wherein the treating includes increasing a size of the at least one of the ophthalmic artery or the junction between the internal carotid artery and the ophthalmic artery.

17. The method of claim 16 , wherein the increasing the size of the at least one of the ophthalmic artery or the junction between the internal carotid artery and the ophthalmic artery includes removing material.

18. The method of claim 16 , wherein the increasing the size of the at least one of the ophthalmic artery or the junction between the internal carotid artery and the ophthalmic artery includes using a balloon.

19. The method of claim 12 , further including measuring a blood flow rate in the ophthalmic artery.

20. The method of claim 19 , wherein the measuring the blood flow rate in the ophthalmic artery includes measuring at least one of a linear blood flow rate or a volumetric blood flow rate.
