Determining whether a user has possession of a transaction card and/or whether the user is authorized to possess the transaction card
A device receives a transaction request concerning a transaction and a transaction card from a transaction terminal, and determines, based on the transaction request, information concerning the transaction card. The device sends, based on the transaction request and to a user device, a query concerning possession of the transaction card by a user of the user device, where the query includes an instruction for the user to confirm possession of the transaction card via a component of the user device. The device receives, from the user device and after sending the query to the user device, a response concerning possession of the transaction card by the user, and determines, based on the response and the information concerning the transaction card, whether the user has possession of the transaction card. The device performs, based on determining whether the user has possession of the transaction card, at least one action.
1. A method, comprising:
receiving, by a first device and from a second device, a query concerning possession of a transaction card by a user of the first device,
wherein the query includes an instruction for the user to confirm possession of the transaction card via a near field communication (NFC) device of the first device;
automatically activating, by the first device, the NFC device based on receiving the query;
interacting, based on receiving the query and using the NFC device, with the transaction card;
obtaining, by the first device and based on the interaction, integrated circuit (IC) chip data from an IC chip of the transaction card;
confirming, by the first device, an identity of the user via one or more of:
a camera of the first device,
a biometric sensor of the first device, or
a microphone of the first device; and
providing, by the first device and to the second device and after interacting with the transaction card and after confirming the identity of the user, a response concerning possession of the transaction card by the user,
the response including the IC chip data.
2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the second device comprises a server device.
3. The method of claim 1 , wherein the second device comprises a transaction terminal device.
4. The method of claim 1 , wherein receiving the query comprises:
receiving the query via a text message.
5. The method of claim 1 , wherein the biometric sensor includes at least one of:
a fingerprint reader, or
a retina scanner.
6. The method of claim 1 , wherein automatically activating the NFC device comprises:
automatically activating the NFC device further based on the identity of the user being confirmed.
7. The method of claim 1 , wherein providing the response concerning possession of the transaction card comprises:
providing the response concerning possession of the transaction card after confirming the identity of the user.
8. A first device, comprising:
one or more memories; and
one or more processors communicatively coupled to the one or more memories, configured to:
receive, from a second device, a query concerning possession of a transaction card by a user of the first device,
wherein the query includes an instruction for the user to confirm possession of the transaction card via a near field communication (NFC) device of the first device;
confirm an identity of the user via one or more of:
a camera of the first device,
a biometric sensor of the first device, or
a microphone of the first device;
automatically activate the NFC device based on receiving the query and after confirming the identity of the user;
interact, based on receiving the query and using the NFC device, with the transaction card;
obtain, based on the interaction, integrated circuit (IC) chip data from an IC chip of the transaction card; and
provide, to the second device and after interacting with the transaction card, a response concerning possession of the transaction card by the user,
the response including the IC chip data.
9. The first device of claim 8 , wherein the second device comprises a server device.
10. The first device of claim 8 , wherein the second device comprises a transaction terminal device.
11. The first device of claim 8 , wherein the one or more processors, when receiving the query, are configured to:
receive the query via a text message.
12. The first device of claim 8 , wherein the biometric sensor includes at least one of:
a fingerprint reader, or
a retina scanner.
13. The first device of claim 8 , wherein the one or more processors, when automatically activating the NFC device, are further configured to:
automatically activate the NFC device further based on the identity of the user being confirmed.
14. The first device of claim 8 , wherein the one or more processors, when providing the response concerning possession of the transaction card, are configured to:
provide the response concerning possession of the transaction card after confirming the identity of the user.
15. A non-transitory computer-readable medium storing instructions, the instructions comprising:
one or more instructions that, when executed by one or more processors of a first device, cause the one or more processors to:
receive, from a second device, a query concerning possession of a transaction card by a user of the first device,
wherein the query includes an instruction for the user to confirm possession of the transaction card via a near field communication (NFC) device of the first device;
automatically activate the NFC device based on receiving the query;
interact, based on receiving the query and using the NFC device, with the transaction card;
obtain, based on the interaction, integrated circuit (IC) chip data from an IC chip of the transaction card;
confirm an identity of the user via one or more of:
a camera of the first device,
a biometric sensor of the first device, or
a microphone of the first device; and
provide, to the second device and after interacting with the transaction card and after confirming the identity of the user, a response concerning possession of the transaction card by the user,
the response including the IC chip data.
16. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 15 , wherein the second device comprises a server device.
17. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 15 , wherein the second device comprises a transaction terminal device.
18. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 15 , wherein the one or more instructions, that cause the one or more processors to receive the query, cause the one or more processors to:
receive the query via a text message.
19. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 15 , wherein the biometric sensor includes at least one of:
a fingerprint reader, or
a retina scanner.
20. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 15 , wherein the one or more instructions, that cause the one or more processors to provide the response concerning possession of the transaction card, cause the one or more processors to:
provide the response concerning possession of the transaction card after confirming the identity of the user.
