wherein the sorting comprises a plurality of spacers arranged in a staggered array.
2. The system of claim 1 , wherein the chamber is configured to accommodate a two-dimensional flow of the sample.
3. The system of claim 1 , wherein the chamber comprises a plurality of electrodes extending between first and second opposing surfaces of the chamber.
4. The system of claim 1 , wherein the sorting arrangement is a passive sorting arrangement.
5. The system of claim 4 , wherein the chamber comprises a first outlet and a second outlet, wherein the first outlet is sized to pass substantially only sample entities below a predetermined threshold sample entity size, and the second outlet is sized to pass sample entities above the predetermined threshold sample entity size.
6. The system of claim 1 , wherein the sample comprises a plurality of PODS.
7. The system of claim 1 , further comprising an imager array comprising at least one lensless image sensor, the imager array being configured to generate one or more images of the sample in the chamber, and a controller configured to activate the at least one electrode to deliver electrical energy to the selected portion of sample entities based on the one or more images of the sample.
8. A system for processing a sample, the system comprising:
a chamber configured to accommodate the flow of a sample, wherein the chamber comprises at least one electrode configured to selectively deliver electrical energy to at least a portion of the sample;
an imager array configured to image the flow of the sample in the chamber; and
a controller configured to activate the at least one electrode based on an analysis of one or more images from the imager array.
9. A method for processing a sample comprising a plurality of sample entities, the method comprising:
receiving a sample in a chamber comprising at least one electrode and a sorting arrangement comprising a plurality of spacers arranged in a staggered array;
characterizing one or more sample entities in the sample as discard sample entities;
merging the discard sample entities by delivering electrical energy from the at least one electrode to the discard sample entities; and
sorting sample entities of the sample based on size of the sample entities.
10. The method of claim 9 , wherein characterizing one or more sample entities comprises receiving one or more images of the sample in the chamber and characterizing one or more sample entities based on the one or more images, wherein the one or more images comprises an optical image.
