Abstract

The present invention relates to compositions, in particular dietary compositions, that comprise a combination of choline cation and succinate anion (2−) and nicotinamide, and use of these compositions for maintaining and enhancing the brain energy metabolism in a human, and for preventing and treating symptoms and physiological conditions associated with an imbalanced, damaged or slowed brain energy metabolism in a human subject.

Claims (11)

1. A method for synergistically increasing in a human a mean level of at least one molecule selected from nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide, adenosine triphosphate, and phosphocreatine, the method comprising:

administering to a human at least once a day an effective amount of a composition comprising choline cation, succinate anion (2−), and nicotinamide, wherein the molar ratio of choline cation, succinate anion (2−), and nicotinamide in the composition is from about 2:1:0.01 to about 2:1:10.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the choline succinate salt (2:1) is present in an amount from 10 mg to 1000 mg per serving, served as one or more doses per day.

3. The method of claim 1 , wherein the nicotinamide is present in an amount from 10 mg to 4000 mg per serving, served as one or more doses per day.

4. The method of claim 1 , wherein the composition further comprises a compound selected from creatine and a creatine precursor selected from glycine and arginine.

5. The method of claim 1 , further comprising enhancing brain energy metabolism in the human by administering the effective amount of the composition.

6. The method of claim 1 , wherein the human is selected from an aging human individual and a human individual experiencing at least one of psychological stress, fatigue, insomnia, and mental depression.

7. The method of claim 1 , further comprising reducing the frequency at least one of mood swings, seasonal affective disorder (SAD), insomnia, fatigue, and loss of focus.

8. The method of claim 7 , wherein the composition is administered daily in one or more doses for a period of one or more days in an amount effective to synergistically increase in the human a mean level of at least one of nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide, adenosine triphosphate, and phosphocreatine.

9. The method of claim 8 , wherein the composition is administered for a period of at least 7 days.

10. The method of claim 9 , wherein the composition is formulated as a beverage or a food.
