Abstract

A surgical instrument for surgically joining a tissue includes a handle assembly, an elongate portion extending distally from the handle assembly, a pair of opposed jaw members, and a tissue stop. The tissue stop is mechanically engaged with a first jaw member and is configured to retain the tissue between the jaw members. The tissue stop is movable between a first position, where a stopping portion of the tissue stop is disposed between a tissue-contacting surface of the first jaw member and a tissue-contacting surface of the second jaw member, and a second position, where the stopping portion is between the tissue-contacting surface of the first jaw member and a lower surface of the first jaw member. A portion of the tissue stop is made of stamped metal section and a portion of the tissue stop is made of an overmolded plastic section.

Claims (8)

1. A surgical loading unit, comprising:

a tool assembly having a first jaw member and a second jaw member that are longitudinally curved, at least one of the first jaw member or the second jaw member being movable relative to the other, the first jaw member having a cartridge assembly and the second jaw member having an anvil assembly, the cartridge assembly having a tissue contacting surface with a plurality of fastener retaining slots and a knife channel, the tool assembly having a tissue stop movably attached to the cartridge assembly, the tissue stop having a body and a pair of lateral walls and being attached to the cartridge assembly by a pin, wherein the tissue stop includes a stamped metal portion.

2. The surgical loading unit according to claim 1 , wherein the tissue stop is longitudinally movable with respect to the cartridge assembly.

3. The surgical loading unit according to claim 1 , wherein the tissue stop has a cam slot, the pin being disposed in the cam slot so that the tissue stop is movable out of a recess in the cartridge assembly.

4. The surgical loading unit according to claim 1 , further comprising an actuator for moving the tissue stop between a first position and a second position.

5. The surgical loading unit according to claim 1 , further comprising a body portion having a coupling for attaching the loading unit to a surgical instrument.

6. The surgical loading unit according to claim 1 , wherein the tissue stop includes a molded plastic portion.
