Abstract

Systems and methods for communicating in a network using share signals in accordance with various embodiments of the present disclosure are provided. In one embodiment, a method for communicating in a network may include receiving, from a first client device associated with an A/V recording and communication device, at a backend server in network communication with the A/V recording and communication device, a share signal comprising location data and first image data captured by a first camera of the A/V recording and communication device, the share signal including a command to share the first image data with a network of users; generating a power-up command signal based on the share signal; identifying at least one second camera to power up; and transmitting the power-up command signal to the at least one second camera, by the backend server, using a network interface.

Claims (58)

1. A system comprising:

one or more processors; and

one or more non-transitory computer-readable media storing instructions that, when executed by the one or more processors, cause the system to:

receive, from individual user devices of multiple user devices, location data representing a respective location associated with an audio/video recording and communication device (A/V device) associated with the individual user device and an alert radius;

generate, for individual user devices of the multiple user devices, a respective geographic area based on the respective location and alert radius;

receive first image data generated by a second A/V device;

receive, from a second user device associated with the second A/V device, an indication that the first image data is associated with an event;

determine, based at least in part on the indication that the first image data is associated with the event, an event location at which the second A/V device is located;

determine that the event location is within a geographic area generated for at least a first user device of the multiple user devices;

based at least in part on determining that the event location is located within the geographic area, send a command to cause a first A/V device associated with the first user device to power-up a camera; and

receive second image data generated by the first A/V device.

2. The system of claim 1 , wherein to determine an event location at which the second A/V device is located comprises at least determining the event location from geographic coordinates received from the second A/V device.

3. A method comprising:

receiving, by a system and from individual user devices of multiple user devices, location data representing a respective location associated with an audio/video recording and communication device (A/V device) associated with the individual user device and an alert radius;

generating, for individual user devices of the multiple user devices, a respective geographic area based on the respective location and the alert radius;

receiving, by the system, first data representing a crime report;

receiving, by the system, an indication that the crime report is associated with an event;

determining an event location associated with the event;

based at least in part on the receiving of the indication that the crime report is associated with an event and the event location, determining, by the system, that the event location is within at least a geographic area associated with a first user device of the multiple user devices;

based at least in part on determining that the event location is within the geographic area associated with the first user device, sending, by the system, a command to cause a first A/V device associated with the first user device to power-up a camera; and

receiving image data generated by the first A/V device.

4. The method of claim 3 , further comprising:

receiving second location data associated with a second A/V device, wherein the second A/V device generated the crime report,

wherein the event location is determined based on the second location data.

5. A method comprising:

receiving first image data generated by a first audio/video recording and communication device (A/V) device);

receiving, from a user device associated with the first A/V device, an indication that the first image data is associated with an event;

determining a first location associated with the first A/V device;

based at least in part on the receiving of the indication, determining multiple geographic regions that each contain the first location, individual geographic regions of the multiple geographic regions associated with a respective A/V device of multiple A/V devices and having an alert radius associated with the respective user device,

determining at least one second A/V device that is associated with at least one geographic region of the multiple geographic regions;

based at least in part on determining that the at least one geographic region contains the first location and the determining that the at least one second A/V device is associated with the at least one geographic region, sending a first command that causes the at least one second A/V device to power-up a camera; and

receiving second image data generated by the at last one second A/V device.

6. The system of claim 1 , the one or more non-transitory computer-readable media storing further instructions that, when executed by the one or more processors, further cause the system to send, along with the first command, identifier data associated with the first A/V device.

7. The method of claim 5 , further comprising:

sending, along with the first command, identifier data associated with the at least one second A/V device,

wherein the receiving of the second image data is further based at least in part on the sending of the identifier data.

8. The system of claim 1 , the one or more non-transitory computer-readable media storing further instructions that, when executed by the one or more processors, further cause the system to generate the first command, the first command indicating at least a predetermined period of time over which to power-up the camera.

9. The system of claim 8 , wherein the second image data represents a video that includes a length that is associated with the predetermined period of time.

10. The system of claim 1 , wherein individual geographic regions of the multiple geographic regions are generated using an alert radius associated with a respective A/V device.

11. The system of claim 1 , wherein individual geographic regions of the multiple geographic regions correspond to respective portions of a map, and wherein determining multiple geographic regions that each contain the first location comprises determining multiple portions of the map that include the first location.

12. The system of claim 1 , the one or more non-transitory computer-readable media storing further instructions that, when executed by the one or more processors, further cause the system to:

receive a request to associate the first A/V device with a network of users,

wherein to send the first command is based at least in part on the request.

13. The system of claim 1 , wherein the event location comprises at least one of:

an address associated with the second A/V device;

a neighborhood associated with the second A/V device; or

a city associated with the second A/V device.

14. The method of claim 5 , wherein the multiple geographic regions further include a second geographic region.

15. The method of claim 14 , wherein the at least one geographic region is a different size than the second geographic region.

16. The method of claim 5 , wherein the method comprises storing first region data defining the at least one geographic region, the first region data indicating a radius of the at least one geographic region.

17. The method of claim 5 , wherein the method comprises storing first region data defining the at least one geographic region.

18. The method of claim 5 , wherein the method comprises storing first region data defining the at least one geographic region, the first region data defining a boundary of the at least one geographic region relative to the first location associated with the first A/V device.

19. The method of claim 18 , wherein the first region data indicates a radius of the at least one geographic region extending from a second location associated with the at least one second A/V device.

20. The system of claim 1 , the one or more non-transitory computer-readable media storing further instructions that, when executed by the one or more processors, further cause the system to determine that the event location is within a second geographic area generated for a third A/V device of the multiple user devices, the second geographic area different from the first geographic area.

21. The system of claim 20 , the one or more non-transitory computer-readable media storing further instructions that, when executed by the one or more processors, further cause the system to:

receive, from a fourth user device, an indication of a second event associated with a fourth A/V device; and

based at least in part on determining that the fourth A/V device is located within the first geographic area stored in association with the first A/V device but not located within the second geographic area stored in association with the third A/V device, send a command to cause the first A/V device to power-up only the first camera to obtain a fourth image data.

22. The system of claim 1 , wherein a first alert radius associated with a first user device of the multiple user devices is different from a second alert radius associated with a second user device of the multiple user devices.
