Abstract

Described here are delivery devices for delivering one or more implants to the body, and methods of using. The delivery devices may deliver implants to a variety of locations within the body, for a number of different uses. In some variations, the delivery devices have a cannula with one or more curved sections. In some variations, a pusher may be used to release one or more implants from the cannula. In some variations, one or more of the released implants may be a self-expanding device. Methods of delivering implants to one or more sinus cavities are also described here.

Claims (25)

1. A method of treating one or more urinary conditions in a patient, the method comprising:

advancing a delivery device to a target tissue in a urethra, a ureter, or a bladder in the patient, where the delivery device comprises a flexible member with an expandable balloon arranged thereon, the expandable balloon being configured to expand from a first compressed configuration to a second expanded configuration, and where at least a portion of the delivery device has a drug-eluting layer comprising one or more drugs;

positioning the expandable balloon at the target tissue with the delivery device;

allowing release of one or more drugs from the drug-eluting layer to the target tissue;

expanding the expandable balloon from the first compressed configuration to the second expanded configuration to contact the target tissue;

detaching the expandable balloon from the flexible member after expanding the expandable balloon; and

withdrawing the flexible member after detaching the expandable balloon, thereby leaving the expandable balloon positioned at the target tissue in the second expanded configuration.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the one or more drugs comprises an anti-inflammatory drug, an anesthetic drug, a numbing drug, an antibiotic or antibacterial agent, an antifungal agent, an antiviral agent, an antiseptic, or a combination thereof.

3. The method of claim 1 , wherein the one or more drugs comprises an alpha-blocker, imipramine, an antispasmodic, a 5-alpha reductase inhibitor, or a combination thereof.

4. The method of claim 1 , wherein the one or more drugs comprises paclitaxel.

5. The method of claim 1 , wherein the flexible member comprises one or more drug-eluting layers.

6. The method of claim 1 , wherein the one or more urinary conditions comprises at least one of urinary incontinence, urinary obstruction, benign prostatic hypertrophy, or a combination thereof.

7. The method of claim 1 , further comprising positioning the expandable balloon with the delivery device at a location between a wall of a urinary passageway and an obstruction.

8. The method of claim 7 , further comprising deploying the expandable balloon positioned with the delivery device to create a channel in the urinary passageway allowing urine to bypass the obstruction.

9. The method of claim 7 , further comprising deploying the expandable balloon positioned with the delivery device in the urinary passageway to prevent obstruction of the urinary passageway.

10. The method of claim 9 , wherein deploying the expandable balloon further comprises delivering the expandable balloon to at least one of the bladder and the urethra to prevent obstruction of the urinary passageway.

The method of claim 9 , wherein deploying the expandable balloon further comprises delivering the expandable balloon in the first compressed configuration to a location between a wall of the ureter and the obstruction, and wherein the method further comprises deploying the expandable balloon to create a channel in the urinary passageway allowing urine to bypass the obstruction.

12. The method of claim 7 , wherein expanding the expandable balloon from the first compressed configuration to the second expanded configuration dilates the target tissue near the delivery device.

13. The method of claim 1 , further comprising delivering an expandable device comprising one or more biodegradable polymer filaments.

14. The method of claim 13 , wherein the one or more biodegradable polymer filaments are arranged to form a series of diamond shapes, and wherein a distal end of the expandable device and a proximal end of the expandable device are defined by each of the diamond shapes.

15. The method of claim 1 , wherein the expandable balloon surrounds an outer surface of the flexible member.

16. The method of claim 1 , wherein the expandable balloon in the second expanded configuration is configured to displace the target tissue in multiple directions.

17. The method of claim 1 , wherein the expandable balloon in the second expanded configuration is configured to dilate the target tissue near the expandable balloon.

18. The method of claim 1 , wherein the flexible member comprises an atraumatic distal tip.

19. The method of claim 1 , wherein the expandable balloon is biodegradable.
