Abstract

A method for performing a diagnostic test comprises generating a first visual trigger on a display screen of a mobile device responsive to activation of an application on the mobile device. An image of a diagnostic test presently viewed by a camera incorporated with the mobile device is displayed on the display screen of the mobile device. The diagnostic test has a second visual trigger thereon. The image and the first visual trigger are displayed on the display screen at a same time. An image is captured by the application of the diagnostic test responsive to alignment of the first visual trigger with the second visual trigger on the display screen of the mobile device. The captured image is processed to provide test results for the diagnostic test.

Claims (37)

1. A method for performing a diagnostic test, comprising:

generating, by an application on a mobile device, a first visual trigger on a display screen of the mobile device;

displaying a diagnostic test device viewed by a camera included in the mobile device on the display screen of the mobile device, the diagnostic test device having a second visual trigger thereon; and

capturing an image of the diagnostic test device responsive to an alignment of the first visual trigger with the second visual trigger on the display screen of the mobile device.

2. The method of claim 1 further comprising the steps of:

generating a misalignment indication responsive to alignment failure between the first visual trigger and the second visual trigger on the display screen of the mobile device; and

displaying the misalignment indication on the display screen of the mobile device.

3. The method of claim 1 further comprising the steps of:

generating a success indicator responsive to alignment between the first visual trigger and the second visual trigger on the display screen of the mobile device; and

displaying the success indicator on the display screen of the mobile device.

4. The method of claim 1 further comprising the step of focusing the image by the camera responsive to the alignment of the first visual trigger and the second visual trigger.

5. The method of claim 1 , wherein the first and second visual triggers comprise a crosshair.

6. The method of claim 1 , further comprising the step of generating an outline of the diagnostic test device responsive to activation of the application on the mobile device.

7. The method of claim 6 , wherein the step of capturing further comprises capturing the image by the application of the diagnostic test device responsive to alignment of both the first visual trigger with the second visual trigger and the outline of the diagnostic test device with the diagnostic test device on the display screen of the mobile device.

8. The method of claim 1 , wherein the diagnostic test device and the first visual trigger are displayed on the display screen at a same time.

9. The method of claim 1 , further comprising processing the captured image to provide test results for the diagnostic test.

10. The method of claim 1 , wherein generating the first visual trigger is responsive to activation of the application.

11. A system for performing a diagnostic test, comprising:

a mobile device including a display screen for displaying images and a camera for capturing images;

a processor for controlling operations of the mobile device; and

an application stored on the mobile device for configuring the processor, the display screen and the camera to:

generate a first visual trigger on the display screen of the mobile device,

display a diagnostic test device viewed by the camera within the mobile device on the display screen of the mobile device, the diagnostic test device having a second visual trigger thereon, and

capture an image of the diagnostic test device responsive to an alignment of the first visual trigger with the second visual trigger on the display screen of the mobile device.

12. The system of claim 11 , wherein the application further configures the processor, the display screen and the camera to:

generate a misalignment indication responsive to alignment failure between the first visual trigger and the second visual trigger on the display screen of the mobile device; and

display the misalignment indication on the display screen of the mobile device.

13. The system of claim 11 , wherein the application further configures the processor, the display screen and the camera to:

generate a success indicator responsive to alignment between the first visual trigger and the second visual trigger on the display screen of the mobile device; and

display the success indicator on the display screen of the mobile device.

14. The system of claim 11 , wherein the application further configures the processor, the display screen and the camera to focus the camera responsive to the alignment of the first visual trigger and the second visual trigger.

15. The system of claim 11 , wherein the first and second visual triggers comprise a crosshair.

16. The system of claim 11 , wherein the application further configures the processor, the display screen and the camera to generate an outline of the diagnostic test device responsive to activation of the application on the mobile device.

17. The system of claim 16 , wherein the application further configures the processor, the display screen and the camera to capture the image of the diagnostic test device responsive to alignment of both the first visual trigger with the second visual trigger and the outline of the diagnostic test device with the diagnostic test device on the display screen of the mobile device.

18. The system of claim 11 , wherein the diagnostic test device and the first visual trigger are displayed on the display screen at a same time.

19. The system of claim 11 , wherein the application further configures the processor, the display screen and the camera to process the captured image of the diagnostic test device to provide test results for the diagnostic test.

20. The system of claim 11 , wherein generating the first visual trigger is responsive to activation of the application on the mobile device.
