Abstract

A system and method for dispensing fluids is introduced. A preferred embodiment comprises a sealed tank, a bag containing fluid inside the sealed tank, an outlet for dispensing the liquid in the bag, and a pressure generating device to create pressure in the sealed tank.

Claims (37)

1. A system for dispensing a liquid beverage, the system comprising:

a source of a liquid beverage, the source being under pressure;

a nozzle coupled to the source, wherein the pressure causes the liquid beverage to flow from the source to the nozzle when the nozzle is in an open position;

a hat valve attached to the nozzle, wherein the hat valve prevents flow of the liquid beverage from the nozzle to the source;

a higher chamber disposed on a top side of the nozzle, the top side of the nozzle comprising the hat valve, wherein a top side of the hat valve faces the higher chamber, and wherein a lower chamber is defined within the nozzle on a lower side of the hat valve; and

a pressure sensor disposed between the higher chamber and the lower chamber.

2. The system of claim 1 , wherein the nozzle comprises:

a nozzle body; and

a plunger disposed within the nozzle body, wherein the plunger can move axially within the nozzle body, and wherein the hat valve is coupled to the plunger.

3. The system of claim 2 , wherein the plunger is prevented from rotating within the nozzle body.

4. The system of claim 2 , wherein the nozzle further comprises an adapter sealing surface coupled to the nozzle body, the adapter sealing surface positioned so that the hat valve forms a seal with the adapter sealing surface when the nozzle is in a closed position.

5. The system of claim 4 , further comprising a seal between the nozzle body and the adapter sealing surface.

6. The system of claim 1 , wherein a pressure difference between a pressure in the higher chamber and a pressure in the lower chamber is sensed by the pressure sensor.

7. The system of claim 1 , further comprising a monitoring system that monitors the pressure sensor.

8. The system of claim 7 , wherein the monitoring system emits a user perceptible warning when the pressure in the lower chamber exceeds the pressure in the higher chamber.

9. The system of claim 7 , further comprising a lockout system, wherein the lockout system prevents a user from dispensing the liquid beverage if the pressure sensor senses that the pressure in the lower chamber exceeds the pressure in the higher chamber.

10. The system of claim 7 , wherein the monitoring system comprises a microcontroller.

11. A method for dispensing a liquid beverage, the method comprising:

pressurizing a source of a liquid beverage, the source of the liquid beverage coupled to a nozzle comprising a hat valve separating the source of the liquid beverage from an interior of the nozzle;

opening the nozzle, wherein the opening comprises opening the hat valve, wherein the liquid beverage flows past the hat valve through the nozzle;

closing the nozzle, wherein the closing comprises closing the hat valve; and

sensing a difference between a pressure of the source of the liquid beverage and a pressure of the interior of the nozzle, wherein the pressure of the source of the liquid beverage exceeds the pressure of the interior of the nozzle when the nozzle is in a closed state.

12. The method of claim 11 , wherein closing the hat valve comprises forming a seal between the hat valve and a surface of the nozzle.

13. The method of claim 11 , wherein the sensing comprises monitoring a pressure sensor disposed between the source of the liquid beverage and the interior of the nozzle.

14. The method of claim 13 , further comprising warning a user when the pressure of the interior of the nozzle exceeds the pressure of the source of the liquid beverage.

15. The method of claim 14 , wherein the warning comprises a user perceptible warning.

16. The method of claim 15 , wherein the user perceptible warning comprises an audible alarm.

17. The method of claim 13 , further comprising locking out a user when the pressure of the interior of the nozzle exceeds the pressure of the source of the liquid beverage, wherein the locking out comprises preventing the user from dispensing the liquid beverage.

18. The method of claim 13 , wherein the monitoring comprises monitoring the pressure sensor with a microprocessor.

19. A system for dispensing a liquid beverage, the system comprising:

a hat movable between a first position and a second position;

a plunger physically connected to the hat;

a nozzle body, a portion of the plunger extending into the nozzle body;

a sealing surface in physical contact with the nozzle body, wherein when the hat is located in the first position the hat is in physical contact with the sealing surface and when the hat is located in the second position the hat is separated from the sealing surface;

a liquid source on a first side of the hat; and

a pressure sensor disposed to measure a pressure difference between the liquid source and an interior of the nozzle body.

20. The system of claim 19 , wherein the sealing surface further comprises an o-ring in physical contact with the nozzle body.
