Abstract

A high-frequency signal processing apparatus and a wireless communication apparatus can achieve a decrease in power consumption. For example, when an indicated power level to a high-frequency power amplifier is equal to or greater than a second reference value, envelope tracking is performed by causing a source voltage control circuit to control a high-speed DCDC converter using a detection result of an envelope detecting circuit and causing a bias control circuit to indicate a fixed bias value. The source voltage control circuit and the bias control circuit indicate a source voltage and a bias value decreasing in proportion to a decrease in the indicated power level when the indicated power level is in a range of the second reference value to the first reference value, and indicate a fixed source voltage and a fixed bias value when the indicated power level is less than the first reference value.

Claims (20)

1. A power amplifier module comprising:

a power amplifying circuit configured to amplify an input signal and output an output signal using a bias signal; and

a source voltage generating circuit configured to supply a source voltage to the power amplifying circuit,

wherein the power amplifier module is configured to operate in first and second operation modes,

wherein the power amplifying circuit and the source voltage generating circuit are disposed on a same module printed board,

wherein the source voltage generating circuit is configured to receive a power indication signal corresponding to an average power level of the first output signal,

wherein the source voltage generating circuit is configured to generate the source voltage such that:

the source voltage increases as the average power level increases, when the power amplifier module is operating in the first operation mode, and

the source voltage varies along an envelope of the first input signal, when the power amplifier module is operating in the second operation mode,

wherein the bias signal is configured to:

increase as the average power level increase, when the power amplifier module is operating in the first operation mode, and

have a fixed value, when the power amplifier module is operating in the second operation mode,

wherein the power amplifier module is configured to operate in the first operation mode when the average power level is less than a first reference value, and

wherein the power amplifier module is configured to operate in the second operation mode when the average power level is equal to or greater than the first reference value.

2. The power amplifier module according to claim 1 , wherein the source voltage generating circuit comprises:

a source voltage supply circuit configured to generate the source voltage based on a source voltage control signal, and to supply the generated source voltage to the power amplifying circuit.

3. The power amplifier module according to claim 2 , further comprising:

a source voltage control circuit configured to output the source voltage control signal, wherein the source voltage control circuit comprises:

a multiplication circuit configured to multiply the average power level by the envelope of the input signal; and

a selection circuit configured to select between a first signal corresponding to an output of the multiplication circuit and a second signal not corresponding to an output of the multiplication circuit, and to output the selected signal as the source voltage control signal.
