Abstract

A remote location monitoring system, for example, a home monitoring or weather monitoring system may include one or more sensors and/or receivers at a first location such as a residence or business to be monitored. The sensors and receivers may communicate with a remote central server via a gateway device and the detection data received from the sensors and receivers may be displayed via display circuitry coupled to a processor of the gateway device. The sensors, receivers, and gateway device may be controlled by users locally or remotely via the server. Users may register to receive remote notifications of weather events and other home monitoring events. Users may also access remotely sensors and receivers to configure alerts, notifications, and automatic responses for the devices and integrated appliances at the first location.

Claims (48)

1. A server comprising:

one or more processors; and

memory storing computer executable instructions that, when executed by the one or more processors, cause the server to:

receive a first sensor reading from a first sensor;

receive a second sensor reading from a second sensor;

based on a first type associated with the first sensor reading or the first sensor, retrieve a first set of one or more detection parameters;

based on the first set of one or more detection parameters, transmit a first notification to a first user;

based on a second type associated with the second sensor reading or the second sensor, retrieve a second set of one or more detection parameters;

compare the second sensor reading to the one or more detection parameters of the second set; and

based on the comparing, transmit a second notification to the first user.

2. The server of claim 1 , wherein the first set of one or more detection parameters comprises a sensor identifier.

3. The server of claim 1 , wherein the second set of one or more detection parameters comprises a range of values.

4. The server of claim 3 , wherein the comparing comprises comparing the second sensor reading to the range of values.

5. The server of claim 1 , wherein the first notification is configured based on a user setting.

6. The server of claim 1 , wherein the first notification is configured based on a type of the first sensor.

7. The server of claim 1 , wherein the memory stores computer executable instructions that, when executed by the one or more processors, cause the server to:

output data associated with the first sensor reading or the second sensor reading to a web site.

8. A method, comprising:

receiving a first sensor reading from a first sensor;

receiving a second sensor reading from a second sensor;

based on a first type associated with the first sensor reading or the first sensor, retrieving a first set of one or more detection parameters;

based on the first set of one or more detection parameters, transmitting a first notification to a first user;

based on a second type associated with the second sensor reading or the second sensor, retrieving a second set of one or more detection parameters;

comparing the second sensor reading to the one or more detection parameters of the second set; and

based on the comparing, transmitting a second notification to the first user.

9. The method of claim 8 , wherein the first set of one or more detection parameters comprises a sensor identifier.

10. The method of claim 8 , wherein the second set of one or more detection parameters comprises a range of values.

11. The method of claim 10 , wherein the comparing comprises comparing the second sensor reading to the range of values.

12. The method of claim 8 , wherein the first notification is configured based on a user setting.

13. The method of claim 8 , wherein the first notification is configured based on a type of the first sensor.

14. The method of claim 8 , further comprising:

outputting data associated with the first sensor reading or the second sensor reading to a web site.

15. A system, comprising:

a first sensor;

a second sensor; and

a server configured to:

receive a first sensor reading from the first sensor;

receive a second sensor reading from the second sensor;

based on a first type associated with the first sensor reading or the first sensor, retrieve a first set of one or more detection parameters;

based on the first set of one or more detection parameters, transmit a first notification to a first user;

based on a second type associated with the second sensor reading or the second sensor, retrieve a second set of one or more detection parameters;

compare the second sensor reading to the one or more detection parameters of the second set; and

based on the comparing, transmit a second notification to the first user.

16. The system of claim 15 , wherein the first set of one or more detection parameters comprises a sensor identifier.

17. The system of claim 15 , wherein the second set of one or more detection parameters comprises a range of values.

18. The system of claim 17 , wherein the comparing comprises comparing the second sensor reading to the range of values.

19. The system of claim 15 , wherein the first notification is configured based on a user setting.

20. The system of claim 15 , wherein the first notification is configured based on a type of the first sensor.
