Abstract

Techniques are described for establishing a two-way voice communication session with an alarm system. The alarm system may establish a two-way voice communication session with an operator associated with a monitoring service that provides monitoring services for alarm events detected by the alarm system. The alarm system also may establish a two-way voice communication session with a notification recipient that is interested in receiving notifications associated with events detected by the alarm system.

Claims (34)

1. A system for establishing a two-way voice communication session between a monitoring component and a notification recipient, the system comprising:

a monitoring component that is located at a property, that is configured to detect an event, and that is configured to transmit event data based on detection of the event;

a server that is located remote from the property, that is configured to receive the event data transmitted by the monitoring component, that is configured to identify a notification recipient for the event data, and that is configured to transmit a data communication to notify the identified notification recipient of the event; and

a recipient device that is configured to receive the data communication transmitted by the server, that is configured to render a display based on the received data communication, and that is configured to transmit a command to initiate a two-way voice communication session with the monitoring component located at the property,

wherein the server is configured to receive, from the recipient device, the command to initiate the two-way voice communication session with the monitoring component located at the property and, based on receipt of the command to initiate the two-way voice communication session with the monitoring component located at the property, enable establishment of the two-way voice communication session between the monitoring component located at the property and the recipient device,

wherein the recipient device is configured to request, from the server, additional information related to the event,

wherein the server is configured to receive, from the recipient device, the request for additional information related to the event and transmit, to the recipient device, the additional information related to the event,

wherein the recipient device is configured to receive, from the server, the additional information related to the event and render a display of the additional information, the display of the additional information related to the event being different than the display of the data communication rendered by the recipient device, and

wherein the display of the additional information related to the event comprises detailed information associated with a specific condition that triggered detection of the event.

2. The system of claim 1 , wherein the monitoring component is configured to detect the event by detecting motion at the property sensed by a motion sensor located at the property.

The system of claim 1 , wherein the monitoring component comprises a processor and a wireless communication module, and the monitoring component is configured to use the wireless communication module to transmit the event data and to establish the two-way voice communication session with the recipient device.

4. The system of claim 3 , wherein the recipient device is configured to establish the two-way voice communication session with the monitoring component over a wireless connection.

5. The system of claim 4 , wherein the wireless connection of the recipient device is a cellular connection, and wherein the wireless communication module of the monitoring component is configured to communicate using internet protocol (IP) packets over a wireless network.

6. The system of claim 1 , wherein the monitoring component comprises an alarm panel.

7. The system of claim 1 , wherein the monitoring component is located inside of a building located at the property.

The system of claim 1 , wherein the recipient device is configured to receive, from the notification recipient, selection of a displayed interface element to transmit the command to initiate the two-way voice communication session with the monitoring component located at the property and, based on the selection of the displayed interface element, transmit the command to initiate the two-way voice communication session with the monitoring component located at the property.

9. The system of claim 1 , wherein the recipient device is configured to request the additional information related to the event based on the notification recipient selecting a link included in the display of the data communication rendered by the recipient device.

10. The system of claim 1 , wherein the display of the additional information related to the event comprises a control that the notification recipient uses to initiate the two-way voice communication session with the monitoring component located at the property.

11. The system of claim 1 , wherein the display of the additional information related to the event comprises information associated with other events detected by the monitoring component located at the property.

12. The system of claim 1 , wherein the display of the additional information related to the event comprises information associated with an account of the notification recipient.

13. The system of claim 1 , wherein the display of the additional information related to the event comprises other information useful in handling the event.

14. The system of claim 1 , further comprising:

multiple recipient devices, wherein the recipient device is one of the multiple recipient devices,

wherein the server is configured to identify multiple notification recipients for the event data and transmit, to the multiple recipient devices, data communications to notify the identified multiple notification recipients of the event.

The system of claim 1 , wherein the server is configured to access rules for identifying the notification recipient from among multiple, different notification recipients, analyze the received event data against the accessed rules, and identify, based on the analysis of the received event data against the accessed rules, the notification recipient for the event data.

The system of claim 15 , wherein the accessed rules specify different notification recipients depending on a type of event detected and the server is configured to determine a type of event detected based on the received event data, analyze the determined type of event against the accessed rules, and identify, based on the analysis of the determined type of event against the accessed rules, the notification recipient for the event data.

17. The system of claim 15 , wherein the accessed rules specify different notification recipients depending on a date associated with the event data and the server is configured to determine a date associated with the event data based on the received event data, analyze the determined date against the accessed rules, and identify, based on the analysis of the determined date against the accessed rules, the notification recipient for the event data.

18. A system for establishing a two-way voice communication session between a monitoring component and a notification recipient, the system comprising:

a monitoring component that is located at a property, that is configured to detect an event, and that is configured to transmit event data based on detection of the event;

a server that is located remote from the property, that is configured to receive the event data transmitted by the monitoring component, that is configured to identify a notification recipient for the event data, and that is configured to transmit a data communication to notify the identified notification recipient of the event; and

a recipient device that is configured to receive the data communication transmitted by the server, that is configured to render a display based on the received data communication, and that is configured to transmit a command to initiate a two-way voice communication session with the monitoring component located at the property,

wherein the server is configured to receive, from the recipient device, the command to initiate the two-way voice communication session with the monitoring component located at the property and, based on receipt of the command to initiate the two-way voice communication session with the monitoring component located at the property, enable establishment of the two-way voice communication session between the monitoring component located at the property and the recipient device,

wherein the server is configured to access rules for identifying the notification recipient from among multiple, different notification recipients that are associated with an account for the property, analyze the received event data against the accessed rules, and identify, based on the analysis of the received event data against the accessed rules, the notification recipient for the event data, and

wherein the accessed rules specify different notification recipients associated with the account for the property depending on a time of day associated with the event data and the server is configured to determine a time of day associated with the event data based on the received event data, analyze the determined time of day against time of day ranges associated with the notification recipients in the accessed rules, and identify, based on the analysis of the determined time of day against the time of day ranges associated with the notification recipients in the accessed rules, the notification recipient for the event data.
