Abstract

A target shooting system is described. The system can include at least one target signal/sensor assembly, the target signal/sensor assembly including an active target signal, an active target signal actuator, at least one hit sensor, and a target signal/sensor transceiver. The system can also include a round counter configured to be attached to a weapon and to sense firing of a projectile from the weapon, the round counter including a projectile firing sensor, a round counter processor and a round counter transceiver. The system can further include a computing device configured to communicate with the at least one target signal/sensor assembly and the round counter.

Claims (46)

1. A target shooting system comprising:

at least one target assembly comprising:

an active target indicator light configured to indicate that the corresponding target is an active target,

at least one hit sensor configured to detect when the corresponding target is struck by a projectile, and

a target assembly transceiver in communication with the active target indicator light and the at least one hit sensor, wherein the target assembly transceiver is configured to receive data from and transmit data to a computing device,

wherein the target assembly is removable and securable to a target by a securing device;

a computing device configured to communicate with the at least one target assembly, wherein the computing device is configured to:

provide an output signal to the at least one target assembly to activate or deactivate the active target indicator light;

receive an input signal from the at least one target assembly indicating whether the corresponding target has been struck by a projectile during a time period during which the active target indicator light is activated; and

calculate and display results and statistics for an iteration of target shooting based on the input signal; and

a round counter configured to be attached to a weapon and to sense firing of a projectile from the weapon, the round counter including a projectile firing sensor, a round counter processor, a round counter transceiver, and an accelerometer to sense recoil from a projectile being fired.

2. The target shooting system of claim 1 , wherein the securing device is a magnet, a fastener, chemically welded hardware, hook-and-loop tape, nails, adhesive, a cradle with adhesive, a clamp, or a bracket.

3. The target shooting system of claim 1 , wherein the active target indicator light is an LED light.

4. The target shooting system of claim 1 , wherein the active target indicator light is a filament bulb.

5. The target shooting system of claim 1 , wherein the active target indicator light is a strobe light.

6. The target shooting system of claim 1 , wherein the active target indicator light is not in a line of sight of a user.

7. A target shooting system comprising:

at least one target assembly comprising:

an active target indicator light configured to indicate that the corresponding target is an active target,

at least one hit sensor configured to detect when the corresponding target is struck by a projectile, and

a target assembly transceiver in communication with the active target indicator light and the at least one hit sensor, wherein the target assembly transceiver is configured to receive data from and transmit data to a computing device,

wherein the target assembly is removable and securable to a target by a securing device;

a computing device configured to communicate with the at least one target assembly, wherein the computing device is configured to:

provide an output signal to the at least one target assembly to activate or deactivate the active target indicator light;

receive an input signal from the at least one target assembly indicating whether the corresponding target has been struck by a projectile during a time period during which the active target indicator light is activated; and

calculate and display results and statistics for an iteration of target shooting based on the input signal; and

a round counter configured to be attached to a weapon and to sense firing of a projectile from the weapon, the round counter including a projectile firing sensor, a round counter processor, a round counter transceiver, and an acoustic sensor to sense a report from the projectile being fired from the weapon.

8. The target shooting system of claim 7 , wherein the active target indicator light is an LED light.

9. The target shooting system of claim 7 , wherein the active target indicator light is a filament bulb.

10. The target shooting system of claim 7 , wherein the active target indicator light is a strobe light.

11. The target shooting system of claim 7 , wherein the active target indicator light is not in a line of sight of a user.

12. A method of controlling a target shooting system, the method comprising:

connecting, at a computing device, to at least one target assembly, the target assembly configured to be attached to a corresponding target and including an active target indicator light, at least one hit sensor configured to detect when the corresponding target is struck by a projectile, and a target transceiver;

connecting the computing device to a round counter configured to be attached to a weapon and to sense firing of a projectile from the weapon, the round counter including a projectile firing sensor, a round counter processor and a round counter transceiver;

providing, from the computing device, an output signal to the at least one target assembly to activate or deactivate the active target indicator light;

receiving, at the computing device, an input signal from the at least one target assembly indicating whether the at least one hit sensor has sensed that the corresponding target has been struck by a projectile during a time period the active target indicator light is activated; and

calculating, at the computing device, statistics for a round of target shooting based on the input signal,

wherein the target assembly is removable and securable to a target by a securing device, and

wherein the projectile firing sensor includes one of an accelerometer to sense recoil from a projectile being fired, or an acoustic sensor to sense a report from the projectile being fired from the weapon.

13. The method of claim 12 , further comprising communicating with a relay tower configured to receive and transmit signals between the computing device and the at least one target assembly.

14. The method of claim 12 , wherein the active target indicator light is a light emitting device.

15. The method of claim 12 , wherein the active target indicator light is an LED light.

16. The method of claim 12 , wherein the active target indicator light is a filament bulb.

17. The method of claim 12 , wherein the active target indicator light is a strobe light.
