Abstract

According to one embodiment, a method for removing antimicrobial material from a composition includes providing a container that contains a plurality of carbon elements such as granules, rocks and sheets. The carbon elements are submerged with a liquid and a composition that includes an antimicrobial material is deposited in the container. The carbon elements are configured to remove the antimicrobial material from the composition. The level of the liquid in the container is monitored and controlled to maintain a submerged condition of the carbon elements.

Claims (29)

1. A method for removing antimicrobial material from a composition, comprising:

providing a container comprising a plurality of carbon granules and a liquid submerging the carbon granules,

introducing a composition comprising an antimicrobial material into the container, wherein the carbon granules are configured to remove the antimicrobial material from the composition; and

agitating at least a portion of the plurality of carbon granules with an agitator at least partially within an interior of the container, wherein the agitator is an air agitation hose arranged in a spiral, square, rectangular, circular or irregular pattern within the interior of the container and wherein agitating comprises producing air bubbles in the liquid by releasing compressed air through one or more holes in the air agitation hose.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the air agitation hose has an outer diameter of from 0.5 inches to 3.0 inches.

3. The method of claim 1 , wherein the agitator is coupled to a control apparatus configured to control the agitator.

4. The method of claim 3 , wherein the control apparatus is a timing system configured to operate the agitator for a predetermined period of time.

5. The method of claim 4 , wherein the predetermined period of time is from 1 minute to 2 hours.

6. The method of claim 1 , further comprising draining the liquid from the container via a drainage valve to an exterior waste disposal area.

7. The method of claim 6 , wherein the agitating is performed for at least ten minutes prior to the draining.

8. A method for removing antimicrobial material from a composition, comprising:

providing a container comprising a plurality of carbon granules and a liquid submerging the carbon granules,

introducing a composition comprising an antimicrobial material into the container, wherein the carbon granules are configured to remove the antimicrobial material from the composition;

agitating at least a portion of the plurality of carbon granules with an agitator at least partially within an interior of the container, wherein the agitator is an air agitation hose, a vibrating device, an impeller, or a propeller;

draining the liquid from the container via a drainage valve to an exterior waste disposal area; and

introducing an additional amount of the composition into the container after the draining, wherein the agitating is performed for at least ten minutes prior to the introducing the additional amount of the composition.

9. A container for removing antimicrobial material from a composition, the container comprising:

a hollow body containing a plurality of carbon granules and a liquid submerging the carbon granules, wherein the carbon granules are configured to remove the antimicrobial material from the composition;

an inlet configured to allow introduction of the composition into the hollow body of the container;

an agitator at least partially within the hollow body of the container, wherein the agitator is an air agitation hose arranged in a spiral, square, rectangular, circular or irregular pattern within the interior of the container configured to release compressed air through one or more holes in the air agitation hose so as to agitate at least a portion of the carbon granules;

an outlet configured to drain the liquid from the container; and

an outlet valve coupled to the outlet.

10. The container of claim 9 , wherein the air agitation hose has an outer diameter of from 0.5 inches to 3.0 inches.

11. The container of claim 9 , further comprising a control apparatus coupled to the agitator and configured to operate the agitator.

12. The container of claim 11 , wherein the control apparatus is configured to operate the agitator for at least ten minutes prior to the outlet valve being opened.

13. The container of claim 9 , wherein the agitator is configured to only agitate a top half of the carbon granules within the hollow body.

14. The container of claim 9 , wherein the agitator is positioned at a bottom portion of the hollow body of the container.

15. The container of claim 9 , wherein the outlet is positioned above the agitator.

16. The container of claim 9 , wherein the agitator is positioned above the outlet.
