Abstract

Vanillin derivative compounds that bind covalently with hemoglobin are provided. Methods of treating sickle cell disease and other hypoxia-related disorders by administering such compounds are also provided.

1. A method of enhancing oxygen delivery from hemoglobin to hypoxic tissue by administering to a subject a therapeutically effective amount of a compound, or pharmaceutically acceptable salt or solvate thereof, selected from the group consisting of
