Abstract

Certain embodiments described herein pertain to optical sensors, systems and methods for continuous glucose monitoring. In some embodiments, methods of preparing a layered optical sensor are disclosed. The optical sensor can be formed by laminating a plurality of sheets together to form a final sensor. In some embodiments, the sensor tip comprises a oxygen conduit, an enzymatic layer, and an sensing layer. In some embodiments, the sensor includes a plurality of waveguides configured to direct light to and from a target material, such as an oxygen sensing polymer. Systems are also disclosed for an adhesive system for attaching an optical sensor-transmitter system. Methods and systems are also disclosed for a sensor inserter system. The inserter can include a lancet tip that includes a convex feature attached to a first surface of the lancet tip.

Claims (20)

1 . A multilayer adhesive system comprising:

a first layer including a first layer adhesive for attaching to skin, the first layer: (i) having a first area defined by a first perimeter, (ii) having a first layer effective elastic modulus that is maintained for a first strain, and (iii) comprising a material having a first layer intrinsic elastic modulus that is higher than the first layer effective elastic modulus; and

a second layer attached to the first layer, the second layer: (i) having a second area defined by a second perimeter, wherein portions of the second area extend beyond the first perimeter, (ii) providing mechanical reinforcement to the first layer, (iii) having a second layer effective elastic modulus that is maintained for a second strain, and (iv) comprising a material having a second layer intrinsic elastic modulus that is higher than the second layer effective elastic modulus,

wherein the multilayer adhesive system has an effective system elastic modulus that is maintained for a third strain.

2 . The multilayer adhesive system of claim 1 , wherein the first layer effective elastic modulus is less than 0.02 Mpa and the first strain is up to 0.4.

3 . The multilayer adhesive system of claim 1 , wherein the first layer effective elastic modulus is less than 0.02 Mpa and the first strain is up to 1.0.

4 . The multilayer adhesive system of claim 1 , wherein the second layer effective elastic modulus is less than 0.02 Mpa and the second strain is up to 0.4.

5 . The multilayer adhesive system of claim 1 , wherein the second layer effective elastic modulus is less than 0.02 Mpa and the second strain is up to 1.0.

6 . The multilayer adhesive system of claim 1 , wherein the effective system elastic modulus s less than 0.02 Mpa and the third strain is up to 0.4.

7 . The multilayer adhesive system of claim 1 , wherein the effective system elastic modulus is less than 0.02 Mpa and the second strain is up to 1.0.

8 . The multilayer adhesive system of claim 1 , wherein the first layer is a spun lace nonwoven material that comprises a plurality of discontinuous portions.

9 . The multilayer adhesive system of claim 1 , wherein the second layer is a polyurethane material that comprises a plurality of perforations therein.

10 . The multilayer adhesive system of claim 9 , wherein the plurality of perforations comprises a plurality of first elongated perforations substantially aligned along a first direction and a plurality of second elongated perforations substantially aligned along a second direction.

11 . The multilayer adhesive system of claim 9 , wherein the plurality of first elongated perforations and the plurality of second elongated perforations form a cross-hatch pattern.

12 . The composite adhesive system of claim 10 , wherein:

(i) each first elongated perforation in the plurality of first perforations has a length substantially equal to L 1 ;

(ii) each first elongated perforation in the plurality of first elongated perforations is spaced from an adjacent elongated first perforation by a distance L 2 ;
