Abstract

Systems, apparatuses, methods, and software are described herein that provide enhanced satellite communication nodes. In one example, a parent communication node is configured to establish a satellite edge network over at least a satellite communication pathway with a child communication node remotely located from a geographic location of the parent node. The child communication node is configured to communicate over at least the satellite communication pathway to establish a connection to the satellite edge network and route communications of a local communication interface to the satellite edge network.

the parent node configured to route at least a portion of the data related to the operation of the one or more local devices to at least one additional child node coupled to the satellite edge network over an additional satellite communication pathway.

9. The communication system of claim 7 , comprising:

the child node configured to parse at least a first portion of the data related to the operation of the one or more local devices and route the first portion of the data over a second local communication interface for alert of activities related to the operation of the one or more local devices.

10. A method of operating communication system, the method comprising:

in a parent node, establishing a satellite edge network comprising a network arrangement formed over satellite communication pathways encompassing communication links between the parent node, at least one satellite device, and at least one child node;

in a child node remotely located from a geographic location of the parent node, communicating over a corresponding satellite communication pathway to establish a connection to the satellite edge network and route communications of one or more local devices coupled over a local communication interface of the child node to the satellite edge network; and

in the parent node, comparing operational requirements for at least an application deployed to the child node against status of the satellite communication pathways to determine if adjustments to alter one or more of the satellite communication pathways is needed to meet the operational requirements, and instruct the child node to make at least a portion of the adjustments while maintaining the network arrangement.

11. The method of claim 10 , wherein establishing the satellite edge network comprises establishing a network transport layer for the network arrangement that is maintained across the adjustments affecting link layers or physical layers of the satellite communication pathways.

12. The method of claim 10 , wherein the satellite communication pathways are provided by a satellite communication service provider associated with the at least one satellite device; and

wherein the adjustments comprise changing a satellite communication service provider having a set of satellite devices different than the at least one satellite device.

13. The method of claim 10 , further comprising:

in the parent node, deploying one or more virtualized software nodes to the child node over the satellite edge network for execution with a hypervisor of the child node, wherein at least a portion of the one or more virtualized software nodes communicate over the local communication interface.

14. The method of claim 10 , further comprising:

in the parent node, deploying one or more virtualized software nodes to the child node and to an additional child node for execution of at least an application that spans resources of the child node and the additional child node, wherein the additional child node is coupled to the satellite edge network over an additional satellite communication pathway.

15. The method of claim 14 , wherein the application comprises a sensing application configured to monitor telemetry data provided by the one or more local devices proximate to the child node and one or more additional local devices proximate to the at least one additional child node.
