Abstract

A planter and planter stack are described. The planter includes a planter pot configured to be nestable with other such planter pots. The planter pot includes a base, a planter sidewall integrally formed on the base and extending upwards towards a rim, and a hollow support pillar formed on the base and extending substantially vertically upwards with a drain opening at the top of the hollow support pillar in communication with an exterior side of the base. The planter further includes a removable riser configured to be nestable with other such removable risers. The removable riser includes a plate supported by an interior of the planter sidewall by an interference fit, and an aperture configured to accept a corresponding hollow support pillar.

Claims (47)

1. A planter, comprising:

a planter pot, wherein the planter pot includes:

a base;

at least one planter sidewall integrally formed with the base and extending upwards towards a rim;

at least one hollow support pillar formed on the base and extending substantially vertically upwards with a drain opening at the top of each of the at least one hollow support pillars in communication with an exterior side of the base; and

a removable riser, wherein the removable riser includes:

a plate that is shaped to conform to the base and that is configured to be supported by an interior of the at least one planter sidewall by an interference fit; and

at least one aperture configured to accept a corresponding hollow support pillar.

2. The planter of claim 1 , wherein a size of a perimeter of the base is smaller than a size of a perimeter of the rim.

3. The planter of claim 1 , wherein the at least one sidewall forms at least one linear sidewall between the base and the rim.

4. The planter of claim 1 , wherein the at least one sidewall forms at least one curved sidewall between the base and the rim.

5. The planter of claim 1 , wherein the at least one hollow support pillar is wider at the base and narrows towards a top of the at least one hollow support pillar such that the at least one hollow support pillar is insertable into another corresponding hollow support pillar of the other matching planter pots.

6. The planter of claim 1 , wherein the removable riser further includes:

a top side including the plate;

a bottom side including an opening therein, wherein a size of a perimeter of the top side is smaller than a size of a perimeter of the bottom side; and

a riser sidewall extending between the top side and the bottom side.

7. The planter of claim 6 , wherein, in operation, the perimeter of the bottom side contacts an interior side of the at least one planter sidewall forming:

a trough in the space laterally between the top side and the interior of the at least one planter sidewall down to the perimeter of the bottom side; and

a reservoir for water beneath the top side; and

wherein, in a nested orientation, an area encompassed by the perimeter of the top side rests adjacent to and covers the base on an interior of the planter and the perimeter of the bottom side situated above the top side and in contact with the interior side of the at least one planter sidewall.

8. The planter of claim 7 , wherein soil placed on the removable riser communicates with water in the reservoir via openings between the trough and the reservoir.

9. The planter of claim 1 , wherein the at least one aperture includes an aperture sidewall extending from the top side to the bottom side, wherein the aperture sidewall tapers to a smaller perimeter size at the bottom side than at the top side.

10. The planter of claim 9 , wherein the aperture sidewall includes an interior support ring having a restricted opening from the aperture sidewall at the bottom side, wherein the support ring of each of the at least one apertures contacts the corresponding at least one hollow support pillar.

11. A stackable planter, comprising:

a planter pot configured to be nestable with other matching planter pots, wherein the planter pot comprising:

at least one planter sidewall integrally formed with a base and extending upwards towards a rim;

at least one hollow support pillar formed on the base and extending substantially vertically upwards with a drain opening at the top of each of the at least one hollow support pillars in communication with an exterior side of the base; and

a removable riser that has a top surface that is shaped to conform to the base and that is configured to be nestable with other matching removable risers, the removable riser comprising at least one aperture configured to accept a corresponding hollow support pillar and a plate including a bottom plate side, a top plate side, and a riser sidewall extending between the top plate side and the bottom plate side, the plate:

being supported by an interior of the at least one planter sidewall by an interference fit; and

forming a trough in a space laterally between the top plate side and the interior of the at least one planter sidewall down to a perimeter of the bottom plate side, the plate being positioned above the base and forming a cavity between the bottom plate side and the base.

12. The stackable planter of claim 11 , wherein a size of a perimeter of the top plate side is smaller than a size of a perimeter of the bottom plate side.

13. The stackable planter of claim 11 , wherein, in a nested orientation, an area encompassed by the perimeter of the top plate side is sized to cover the base on an interior of the planter and the perimeter of the bottom plate side is situated above the top plate side and is in contact with the interior side of the at least one planter sidewall.

14. The stackable planter of claim 11 , wherein soil placed on the removable riser communicates with water in a reservoir via openings between the trough and the reservoir.

15. The stackable planter of claim 11 , wherein the at least one hollow support pillar is wider at the base and narrows towards a top of the at least one hollow support pillar such that the at least one hollow support pillar is insertable into another corresponding hollow support pillar of the other matching planter pots.

16. The stackable planter of claim 15 , wherein the at least one hollow support pillar has a bottom tapered portion at the base, which tapers from first width to a narrower second width as distance from the base increases, a straight portion over the bottom tapered portion that has no taper, and a top tapered portion, which tapers from the second width to a narrower third width as distance from the base increases.

17. The stackable planter of claim 11 , wherein the at least one aperture includes an aperture sidewall extending from the top plate side to the bottom plate side, wherein the aperture sidewall tapers to a smaller perimeter size at the bottom plate side than at the top plate side.

18. The stackable planter of claim 17 , wherein the aperture sidewall includes an interior support ring having a restricted opening from the aperture sidewall at the bottom side, wherein the support ring of each of the at least one apertures contacts the corresponding at least one hollow support pillar.

19. A planter, comprising:

a planter pot, wherein the planter pot includes:

a base, having an aperture;

at least one planter sidewall integrally formed with the base and extending upwards towards a rim;

a hollow support pillar formed on the base and extending substantially vertically upwards, over the aperture of the base, with an opening at the top of the hollow support pillar being in communication with an exterior side of the base, through the aperture of the base; and

a removable riser, wherein the removable riser includes:

a plate, having a top side; and

an aperture in the plate, sized to accept a top portion of the hollow support pillar,

wherein the removable riser is shaped to conform to the base at a first height when the top side faces toward the base, and is further shaped to be supported at a second height, greater than the first height, by an interior of the at least one planter sidewall with an interference fit when the top side faces away from the base.

20. The planter of claim 19 , wherein the plate is further supported by an interior of the at least one planter sidewall, and wherein the aperture of the base is sized to accept a top portion of a second hollow support pillar from a second planter pot when the planter pot is stacked onto the second planter pot.
