Abstract

An axial field rotary energy device can include rotors having magnets and an axis of rotation. A stator assembly can be located axially between the rotors. The stator assembly can include PCB panels. Each PCB panel can have layers. Each layer can include coils. Each coil can have radial traces relative to the axis. The radial traces can include non-linear radial traces coupled by arch traces that are transverse to the non-linear radial traces.

Claims (28)

a stator assembly located axially between the rotors, the stator assembly comprises a plurality of printed circuit board (PCB) panels, each PCB panel comprises a plurality of layers and each layer comprises a plurality of coils, each coil comprises arch traces adjacent an inner diameter and an outer diameter of each coil, respectively, each coil also comprises non-linear radial traces relative to the axis, each of which is located between a curvature of respective ones of the arch traces in each coil, all of the non-linear radial traces comprise a repeating pattern to reduce eddy current losses, and the arch traces are transverse to the non-linear radial traces.

2. The device of claim 1 , wherein the non-linear radial traces comprise a serrated pattern.

3. The device of claim 1 , wherein an absolute value of an angle between portions that form the non-linear radial traces, relative to a direction of motion of the rotors, is greater than 90 degrees.

4. The device of claim 1 , wherein the non-linear radial traces comprise a square wave pattern.

5. The device of claim 1 , wherein the non-linear radial traces comprise a sine wave pattern.

6. The device of claim 1 , wherein the stator assembly comprises discrete PCB radial segments that are mechanically and electrically coupled together to form the stator assembly.

7. The device of claim 1 , wherein the repeating pattern of the non-linear radial traces is regular.

8. The device of claim 1 , wherein the repeating pattern of the non-linear radial traces is irregular.

9. An axial field rotary energy device, comprising:

rotors having an axis of rotation, and each rotor comprises a magnet;

a stator assembly located axially between the rotors, the stator assembly comprises a plurality of printed circuit board (PCB) panels, each PCB panel comprises a plurality of layers and each layer comprises a plurality of coils, each coil comprises arch traces and non-linear radial traces relative to the axis, each of the non-linear radial traces is located between a curvature of respective ones of the arch traces, and all of the non-linear traces comprise a repeating pattern to reduce eddy current losses; and wherein

the stator assembly comprises discrete, PCB radial segments that are mechanically and electrically coupled together side by side and in a same plane to form the stator assembly.

10. The device of claim 9 , wherein the non-linear radial traces comprise a serrated pattern.

11. The device of claim 9 , wherein an absolute value of an angle between portions that form the non-linear radial traces, relative to a direction of motion of the rotors, is greater than 90 degrees.
