Abstract

Certain aspects pertain to a combination sensor comprising a set of physical sensors facing different directions proximate a structure, and configured to measure solar radiation in different directions. The combination sensor also comprises a virtual facade-aligned sensor configured to determine a combi-sensor value at a facade of the structure based on solar radiation readings from the set of physical sensors.

An apparatus for controlling one or more components of a building, the apparatus comprising: a virtual sensor that is (i) configured to determine a value of radiation external to the building by using values of radiation measured by physical sensors disposed at locations adjacent to and/or on the building, which value of radiation determined by the virtual sensor is at an other location different from the locations of the physical sensors, and (ii) configured for utilization in controlling the one or more components of the building.

2. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the physical sensors are configured to measure real time irradiance.

3. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the virtual sensor is configured to determine a value of radiation at least in part by considering modeled facades.

4. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the other location is vertically different from the locations of the physical sensors.

5. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the other location is horizontally different from the locations of the physical sensors.

6. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the virtual sensor is configured for utilization in determining irradiance transmitted into the building.

7. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the one or more components comprise a fire system, an elevator system, a power system, a security system, a lighting system, a heating system, a ventilation system, an air conditioning system, or a heating ventilation and air conditioning system (HVAC).

8. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the one or more components comprise a building management system (BMS).

9. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the virtual sensor is configured to determine the value of radiation by using an aggregation technique or an interpolation technique.

10. The apparatus of claim 9 , wherein the virtual sensor is configured to determine the value of radiation by using the aggregation technique that comprises (i) taking a maximum value of radiation measured by the physical sensors, or (ii) taking an average value of radiation measured by the physical sensors.

11. The apparatus of claim 9 , wherein the virtual sensor is configured to determine the value of radiation by using the interpolation technique that comprises interpolating readings from the physical sensors to a virtual sensor using vectoral calculation.

12. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the one or more components of the building comprise one or more tintable windows.

13. The apparatus of claim 12 , wherein the virtual sensor is configured for utilization in overriding tinting decision of at least one of the tintable windows.

14. A method of controlling one or more components of a building, the method comprising:

determining a value of radiation external to the building by using values of radiation measured by physical sensors disposed at locations adjacent to and/or on the building, which value of radiation determined is at an other location different from the locations of the physical sensors; and

using the value of radiation determined to control the one or more components of the building.

15. The method of claim 14 , wherein the one or more components comprise a fire system, an elevator system, a power system, a security system, a lighting system, a heating system, a ventilation system, an air conditioning system, or a heating ventilation and air conditioning system (HVAC).

16. The method of claim 14 , wherein the one or more components comprise a building management system (BMS).

17. The method of claim 14 , wherein determining the value of radiation at the other location is by using an aggregation technique or an interpolation technique.

18. The method of claim 14 , wherein physical sensors are configured to measure real time irradiance.

19. The method of claim 14 , wherein the one or more components of the building comprise one or more tintable windows.

20. The method of claim 19 , further comprising using the value of radiation determined to override tinting decision of at least one of the tintable windows.

21. A non-transitory computer readable media for controlling one or more components of a building, the non-transitory computer readable media, when read by one or more processors, is configured to perform operations comprising:

determining, or directing determination of, a value of radiation external to the building by using values of radiation measured by physical sensors disposed at locations adjacent to and/or on the building, which value of radiation determined is at an other location different from the locations of the physical sensors; and

using, or directing usage of, the value of radiation determined to control the one or more components of the building.

22. The non-transitory computer readable media of claim 21 , wherein at least one of the one or more processors is disposed external to the building.

23. The non-transitory computer readable media of claim 21 , wherein at least one of the one or more processors is disposed at the physical sensors.

24. The non-transitory computer readable media of claim 21 , wherein the operations comprise determining, or directing determination of, the value of radiation at the other location by using an aggregation technique or an interpolation technique.

25. The non-transitory computer readable media of claim 21 , wherein the one or more components comprise a fire system, an elevator system, a power system, a security system, a lighting system, a heating system, a ventilation system, an air conditioning system, or a heating ventilation and air conditioning system (HVAC).

26. The non-transitory computer readable media of claim 21 , wherein the one or more components comprise a building management system (BMS).
