Abstract

Implementations described and claimed herein provide systems and methods for delivering and retrieving a leadless pacemaker. In one implementation, a leadless pacemaker has a docking end, and the docking end has a docking projection extending from a surface. A docking cap has a body defining a chamber. A retriever has sheaths extending with lumens distally from the chamber. A snare extends between the lumens forming a first snare loop pointing in a first direction and a second snare loop pointing in a second direction with a docking space formed therebetween. The snare is movable between an engaged position and a disengaged position by translating the first snare wire and the second snare wire within the first snare lumen and the second snare lumen. The engaged position includes the first snare wire and the second snare wire tightened around the docking projection within the docking space.

Claims (33)

1. A leadless pacemaker, comprising:

a body having a fixing end and a docking end on a longitudinal axis, wherein the body includes a proximal surface at the docking end;

a helical anchor at the fixing end to attach to tissue; and

a docking projection extending from the proximal surface and including a proximalmost surface, wherein the proximalmost surface is domed, and wherein three or more side keys are notched in the proximalmost surface.

2. The leadless pacemaker of claim 1 , wherein the docking projection includes a neck extending from the proximal surface, wherein the docking projection includes an edge surface forming a ledge around the neck, and wherein the edge surface includes a plurality of edge docking surfaces extending transverse to the proximalmost surface.

3. The leadless pacemaker of claim 2 , wherein the plurality of edge docking surfaces are radially symmetric.

4. The leadless pacemaker of claim 1 , wherein the proximalmost surface has a curved profile.

5. The leadless pacemaker of claim 4 , wherein the curved profile is a hemispherical profile.

6. The leadless pacemaker of claim 1 , wherein the docking projection includes a neck extending from the proximal surface, wherein the docking projection includes an edge surface, and wherein the neck is between the proximal surface and the edge surface, and wherein the neck is radially inward from the edge surface.

7. The leadless pacemaker of claim 1 further comprising an overmold material on the proximalmost surface.

8. The leadless pacemaker of claim 1 further comprising a plurality of end keys defined in the proximal surface.

9. The leadless pacemaker of claim 1 , wherein the docking projection includes an edge surface, wherein the one or more side keys include a plurality of side keys defined in the edge surface, and wherein the plurality of side keys extend along respective arcs over the proximalmost surface between the edge surface and an apex of the proximalmost surface.

10. The leadless pacemaker of claim 1 , wherein the three or more side keys are not disposed radially opposite to one another.

11. A leadless pacemaker system, comprising:

a leadless pacemaker including

a body having a fixing end and a docking end on a longitudinal axis, wherein the body includes a proximal surface at the docking end,

a helical anchor at the fixing end to attach to tissue, and

a docking projection extending from the proximal surface and including a proximalmost surface, wherein the proximalmost surface is domed, and wherein three or more side keys are notched in the proximalmost surface; and

a catheter system including a docking cap having a cap body defining a chamber, wherein the cap body includes one or more domed cap surfaces within the chamber mirroring the proximalmost surface.

12. The leadless pacemaker system of claim 11 , wherein the docking projection includes a neck extending from the proximal surface, wherein the docking projection includes an edge surface forming a ledge around the neck, and wherein the edge surface includes a plurality of edge docking surfaces extending transverse to the proximalmost surface.

13. The leadless pacemaker system of claim 12 , wherein the plurality of edge docking surfaces are radially symmetric.

14. The leadless pacemaker system of claim 11 , wherein the proximalmost surface has a curved profile.

15. The leadless pacemaker system of claim 14 , wherein the curved profile is a hemispherical profile.

16. The leadless pacemaker system of claim 11 , wherein the docking projection includes an edge surface, wherein the one or more side keys include a plurality of side keys defined in the edge surface, and wherein the plurality of side keys extend along respective arcs over the proximalmost surface between the edge surface and an apex of the proximalmost surface.

17. The leadless pacemaker system of claim 11 , wherein the three or more side keys are not disposed radially opposite to one another.

18. A leadless pacemaker system, comprising:

a leadless pacemaker including

a body having a fixing end and a docking end on a longitudinal axis, wherein the body includes a proximal surface at the docking end,

a helical anchor at the fixing end to attach to tissue, and

a docking projection extending from the proximal surface and including a proximalmost surface, wherein the proximalmost surface is domed, and wherein three or more side keys are notched in the proximalmost surface; and

a retriever having a flexible grasper with a first arm and a second arm, wherein the first arm and the second arm are adapted to matingly engage with the docking projection.

19. The leadless pacemaker of claim 18 , wherein the docking projection includes a neck extending from the proximal surface, wherein the docking projection includes an edge surface forming a ledge around the neck, and wherein the neck is between the proximal surface and the edge surface, and wherein the neck is radially inward from the edge surface.

20. The leadless pacemaker of claim 19 , wherein the one or more side keys include a plurality of side keys defined in the edge surface, and wherein the plurality of side keys extend along respective arcs over the proximalmost surface between the edge surface and an apex of the proximalmost surface.
