2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the metatarsal other than the first metatarsal is one of a second metatarsal, a third metatarsal, and a fourth metatarsal.

3. The method of claim 1 , wherein the metatarsal other than the first metatarsal is a second metatarsal.

4. The method of claim 1 , wherein moving the first metatarsal using the bone positioning guide in at least two planes further comprises moving the first metatarsal in a sagittal plane in addition to the frontal plane and the transverse plane.

5. The method of claim 1 , further comprising, prior to preparing the end of the first metatarsal and preparing the end of the medial cuneiform, mobilizing the tarsal-metatarsal joint by releasing at least one of soft tissue and obstructing bone.

6. The method of claim 1 , further comprising fixating the moved position of the first metatarsal by inserting at least one fixation device across the tarsal-metatarsal joint.

7. The method of claim 6 , wherein the at least one bone fixation device comprises at least one of a pin, a screw, and a plate.

8. The method of claim 6 , wherein the at least one bone fixation device comprises a compressing bone screw and a plate.

9. The method of claim 8 , wherein fixating the moved position of the first metatarsal comprises inserting a plurality of bone screws through the bone plate to secure a first end of the bone plate to the medial cuneiform and a second end of the bone plate to the first metatarsal.

10. The method of claim 1 , wherein:

preparing the end of the first metatarsal comprises fenestrating the end of the first metatarsal, and

preparing the end of the medial cuneiform comprises fenestrating the end of the medial cuneiform.

11. The method of claim 1 , wherein:

preparing the end of the first metatarsal comprises preparing the end of the first metatarsal with at least one of a saw, a rotary bur, and an osteotome; and

preparing the end of the medial cuneiform comprises preparing the end of the medial cuneiform with at least one of the saw, the rotary bur, and the osteotome.

12. The method of claim 1 , wherein the bone positioning guide comprises a main body member, the bone engagement member on one side of the main body member, the tip on another side of the main body member, and a ratchet mechanism that allows the bone engagement member and the tip to be moved toward each other, and

further comprising, prior to moving the first metatarsal using the bone positioning guide, positioning a surface of the bone engagement member in contact with a medial side of the first metatarsal and positioning the tip in contact with a lateral side of the metatarsal other than the first metatarsal.

13. The method of claim 12 , wherein moving the first metatarsal using the bone positioning guide comprises engaging the ratchet mechanism.

14. The method of claim 1 , wherein moving the first metatarsal in the transverse plane comprises reducing an angle between the first metatarsal and a second metatarsal from over 10 degrees to 10 degrees or less.

15. The method of claim 14 , wherein moving the first metatarsal in the transverse plane comprises reducing the angle between the first metatarsal and the second metatarsal to between about 1 to 5 degrees.

16. The method of claim 1 , wherein moving the first metatarsal in the frontal plane comprises rotating a tibial sesamoid bone and a fibular sesamoid bone within the frontal plane.

17. The method of claim 1 , wherein moving the first metatarsal in the frontal plane comprises rotating the first metatarsal to a metatarsal rotation ranging from about 0 degrees to 2 degrees.

18. The method of claim 1 , wherein:

preparing the end of the first metatarsal comprises cutting the end of the first metatarsal; and

preparing the end of the medial cuneiform comprises cutting the end of the medial cuneiform.

19. The method of claim 18 , further comprising:

positioning a bone preparation guide across the tarsal-metatarsal joint separating the first metatarsal from the medial cuneiform by at least positioning a first end of the bone preparation guide over the medial cuneiform and a second end of the bone preparation guide over the first metatarsal, the bone preparation guide having at least one cuneiform-side cutting slot and at least one metatarsal-side cutting slot;

cutting the end of the medial cuneiform by at least inserting a tissue removing instrument through the at least one cuneiform-side cutting slot; and

cutting the end of the first metatarsal by at least inserting the tissue removing instrument through the at least one metatarsal-side cutting slot.

20. The method of claim 19 , wherein the bone preparation guide comprises at least one cuneiform-side fixation aperture and at least one metatarsal-side fixation aperture, and further comprising:

inserting a fixation pin through the at least one cuneiform-side fixation aperture of the bone preparation guide and into the medial cuneiform, thereby securing the first end of the bone preparation guide to the medial cuneiform; and

inserting a fixation pin through the at least one metatarsal-side fixation aperture of the bone preparation guide and into the first metatarsal, thereby securing the second end of the bone preparation guide to the first metatarsal.

21. The method of claim 19 , wherein the at least one cuneiform-side cutting slot of the bone preparation guide is skewed relative to the at least one metatarsal-side cutting slot of the bone preparation guide.

22. The method of claim 19 , wherein a distance is defined between a proximal-most surface of the at least one cuneiform-side cutting slot and a distal-most surface of the at least one metatarsal-side cutting slot and the distance ranges from about 2 millimeters to about 10 millimeters.

23. The method of claim 22 , wherein the distance ranges from 4 millimeters to 7 millimeters.
