Abstract

A refuse vehicle including a chassis, a body assembly coupled to the chassis, the body assembly defining a refuse compartment, and an electric energy system, the electric energy system including one or more battery cells and control hardware, the electric energy system detachably coupled to the body and configured to be accessed by a door in the body, and wherein the one or more battery cells of the electric energy system are replaceable.

Claims (23)

1. A refuse vehicle, comprising:

a chassis;

a body assembly coupled to the chassis, the body assembly defining a refuse compartment;

a first tailgate detachably coupled to the body and including a battery compartment; and

an electric energy system, the electric energy system comprising one or more first battery cells and control hardware, wherein at least one battery cell of the one or more first battery cells are coupled within the battery compartment of the first tailgate and are accessible by a door in the first tailgate; and

wherein the first tailgate includes a detachable electrical connection between the battery compartment and the body assembly;

wherein at least one of the one or more first battery cells of the electric energy system are replaceable by at least one of (i) swapping the first tailgate for a second tailgate having one or more second battery cells or (ii) swapping the at least one battery cell for a different battery cell.

2. The refuse vehicle of claim 1 , wherein the refuse vehicle is fully powered by the electric energy system.

3. The refuse vehicle of claim 1 , wherein the refuse vehicle does not include a combustion engine.

4. The refuse vehicle of claim 1 , wherein the one or more first battery cells are detachably coupled to a first portion of the body and wherein the control hardware is detachably coupled to a second portion of the body distinct from the first portion.

5. The refuse vehicle of claim 1 , wherein at least a portion of the electric energy system is coupled to at least one wheel of the refuse vehicle.

6. The refuse vehicle of claim 1 , wherein the refuse vehicle includes a cab and wherein at least a portion of the electric energy system is positioned between the cab and the body.

7. An electric refuse vehicle, comprising:

a chassis;

a body assembly coupled to the chassis, the body assembly defining a refuse compartment;

a prime mover, wherein the prime mover is an electric motor;

an electrical energy system including one or more battery cells coupled within a battery compartment of a tailgate of the electric refuse vehicle which is detachably coupled to the body, wherein the electrical energy system is configured to completely power the prime mover; and

an attachment assembly including a detachable electrical connection between the tailgate and the body assembly.

8. The electric refuse vehicle of claim 7 , wherein a first number of the one or more battery cells are detachably coupled to a first portion of the body and wherein a second number of the one or more battery cells are detachably coupled to a second portion of the body that is distinct from the first portion of the body.

9. The electric refuse vehicle of claim 8 , wherein the body assembly is detachably coupled to the chassis.

10. The electric refuse vehicle of claim 9 , wherein the electric refuse vehicle is a rear loading refuse vehicle and wherein a center of mass of the electrical energy system is forward of a rear axle of the electric refuse vehicle.

11. The electric refuse vehicle of claim 9 , wherein the electric refuse vehicle is a side loading refuse vehicle and wherein a center of mass of the electrical energy system is rearward of a rear axle of the electric refuse vehicle.

12. The electric refuse vehicle of claim 9 , wherein the electric refuse vehicle is a front loading refuse vehicle and wherein a center of mass of the electrical energy system is rearward of a rear axle of the electric refuse vehicle.
