Abstract

A computer-based system for facilitating the execution of law enforcement duties is disclosed. More particularly, according to one aspect of the invention, an electronic system is configured to facilitate the performance of law enforcement duties by quasi-instantaneously providing actionable intelligence to its users, such as front-line law enforcement officers, in response to a real-time query. According to another aspect of the invention, a system implements a set of automated status classifications for subjects with suspected or confirmed involvement in criminal activities. The status classifications specifically and concisely establish the subject's involvement in criminal activities. According to yet another aspect of the invention, a system executes a streamlined electronic process for handling and processing seized items so as to ensure that criminal assets are efficiently and effectively seized, and that asset forfeiture actions are effectively initiated against the seized items.

Claims (26)

1. A computer-based system for facilitating the execution of law enforcement duties, said computer-based system comprising:

a data processing and records management system including one or more computers with one or more processors and one or more data storage means operatively coupled to said one or more processors, said data processing and records management system being configured and arranged to:

generate a create subject packet screen for display on a local digital computer or first mobile digital device of a system user, said create subject packet screen including means for entering a plurality of different identification types and respective identification numbers;

receive input data from said local digital computer or first mobile digital device of said system user for populating said create subject packet screen, said input data including a status classification of a subject packet, a criminal classification of said subject packet, and a plurality of different identification types and respective identification numbers;

automatically assign said plurality of identification types and said respective identification numbers entered by said system user to said subject packet so that said system user is not required to separately create individual subject packets for each identification type and identification number combination, and is not required to reenter subject packet content data for said each identification type and identification number;

when said system user selects a first visual object for saving said subject packet, automatically initiate a search for other subject packets, intelligence data, and/or prior investigation data that contains any of the identification type and identification number combinations entered by said system user in said subject packet;

when said data processing and records management system determines that a match exists between any of said other subject packets, intelligence data, and/or prior investigation data and said identification type and identification number combinations entered by said system user in said subject packet, generate and display a second visual object for enabling said system user to access the matching ones of said other subject packets, intelligence data, and/or prior investigation data, and further generate and display a quantity of said matching ones of said other subject packets, intelligence data, and/or prior investigation data containing said identification type and identification number combinations entered by said system user in said subject packet, said quantity being displayed together with said second visual object; and

when said system user selects said second visual object for accessing the matching ones of said other subject packets, intelligence data, and/or prior investigation data, generate and display an identification results screen that includes a subject packet summary tab, an intelligence summary tab, and a prior investigations summary tab for enabling said system user to view said matching ones of said other subject packets, intelligence data, and/or prior investigation data by category.

2. The computer-based system according to claim 1 , wherein said create subject packet screen generated by said data processing and records management system comprises a first drop-down menu for selecting a particular identification type.

3. The computer-based system according to claim 2 , wherein said create subject packet screen generated by said data processing and records management system comprises a second drop-down menu for entering said status classification.

4. The computer-based system according to claim 3 , wherein said create subject packet screen generated by said data processing and records management system comprises a third drop-down menu for entering said criminal classification.

5. The computer-based system according to claim 1 , wherein said status classification of said subject packet comprises a suspected status of unlawful activity or illegal condition or a confirmed status of unlawful activity or illegal condition.

6. A computer-based system for facilitating the execution of law enforcement duties, said computer-based system comprising:

a data processing and records management system including one or more computers with one or more processors and one or more data storage means operatively coupled to said one or more processors, said data processing and records management system being configured and arranged to:

generate a create subject packet screen for display on a local digital computer or first mobile digital device of a system user, said create subject packet screen including means for entering a plurality of different identification types and respective identification numbers;

receive input data from said local digital computer or first mobile digital device of said system user for populating said create subject packet screen, said input data including a status classification of a subject packet, a criminal classification of said subject packet, and a plurality of different identification types and respective identification numbers;

assign said plurality of identification types and said respective identification numbers entered by said system user to said subject packet so that said system user is not required to separately create individual subject packets for each identification type and identification number combination, and is not required to reenter subject packet content data for said each identification type and identification number;

when said system user selects a first visual object for saving said subject packet, automatically initiate a search for other subject packets, intelligence data, and/or prior investigation data that contains any of the identification type and identification number combinations entered by said system user in said subject packet;

when said data processing and records management system determines that a match exists between any of said other subject packets, intelligence data, and/or prior investigation data and said identification type and identification number combinations entered by said system user in said subject packet, generate and display a second visual object for enabling said system user to access the matching ones of said other subject packets, intelligence data, and/or prior investigation data; and

when said system user selects said second visual object for accessing the matching ones of said other subject packets, intelligence data, and/or prior investigation data, generate and display an identification results screen that includes a subject packet summary tab, an intelligence summary tab, and a prior investigations summary tab for enabling said system user to view said matching ones of said other subject packets, intelligence data, and/or prior investigation data by category.

7. The computer-based system according to claim 6 , wherein said create subject packet screen generated by said data processing and records management system comprises a first drop-down menu for selecting a particular identification type.

8. The computer-based system according to claim 7 , wherein said create subject packet screen generated by said data processing and records management system comprises a second drop-down menu for entering said status classification.

9. The computer-based system according to claim 8 , wherein said create subject packet screen generated by said data processing and records management system comprises a third drop-down menu for entering said criminal classification.

10. The computer-based system according to claim 6 , wherein said status classification of said subject packet comprises a suspected status of unlawful activity or illegal condition or a confirmed status of unlawful activity or illegal condition.

11. The computer-based system according to claim 6 , wherein said data processing and records management system is further configured and arranged to:

generate and display a quantity of said matching ones of said other subject packets, intelligence data, and/or prior investigation data containing said identification type and identification number combinations entered by said system user in said subject packet, said quantity being displayed together with said second visual object.
