Extracts of plants containing polygodial, compositions comprising such extracts and cosmetic and/or dermatological uses thereof
An extract of a plant chosen from Tasmannia lanceolata, Drimys winteri, Spilanthes acmella and Polygonum hydropiper is obtained from ground and dried leaves of said plant by supercritical CO 2 extraction at a pressure of between 120 and 350 bar and at a temperature from 35 to 60° C. and contains polygodial. A process for obtaining such an extract is disclosed along with compositions comprising, in a physiologically acceptable medium, an effective amount of the extract to promotes wound healing and decrease inflammation in skin disorders.
1. A process for obtaining an extract, comprising:
extracting leaves or berries of a plant selected from Tasmannia lanceolata, Drimys winteri, Spilanthes acmella and Polygonum hydropiper and combinations thereof with supercritical CO 2 at a pressure of between 120 and 350 bar and at a temperature of between 35 and 60° C.; and
recovering said extract, wherein the extract contains polygodial.
2. The process according to claim 1 ,
wherein extracting leaves or berries comprised extracting leaves of said plant with supercritical CO 2 at a pressure of between 150 and 285 bar, and at a temperature of between 40 and 50° C.
3. The process according to claim 1 , wherein the leaves of said plant are ground and dried before extraction.
4. The process according to claim 1 , wherein said plant is Tasmannia lanceolata.
