Abstract

An apparatus according to which a subterranean formation in which a wellbore extends is hydraulically fractured, the apparatus comprising first and second manifolds, the first manifold including first and second flow lines adapted to be in fluid communication with first and second pumps, respectively, the first pump being adapted to pressurize fluid received from the first flow line, and the second pump being adapted to pressurize fluid received from the second flow line, and the second manifold including a third flow line adapted to convey pressurized fluid from the first and second pumps to the wellbore to hydraulically fracture the subterranean formation in which the wellbore extends. The apparatus is adapted to be connected to another apparatus used to hydraulically fracture the subterranean formation in which the wellbore extends by moving one, or both, of the first and second flow lines relative to the third flow line.

Claims (34)

1. A manifold assembly for use in hydraulically fracturing a subterranean formation in which a wellbore extends, the manifold assembly comprising:

a platform assembly;

a low pressure flow line movably mounted to a portion of the platform assembly and configured to convey a lower pressurized fluid to at least one hydraulic fracturing pump; and

a high pressure flow line mounted to the platform assembly configured to convey a higher pressurized fluid from the at least one hydraulic fracturing pump toward the wellbore to hydraulically fracture the subterranean formation,

wherein the low pressure flow line is movable along its axis relative to the platform assembly.

2. The manifold assembly of claim 1 , wherein the platform assembly comprises:

at least one plate, and

at least one movable support that is movable along at least a portion of the at least one plate, wherein the low pressure flow line is secured to the at least one movable support.

3. The manifold assembly of claim 2 , wherein the platform assembly further comprises a rail, wherein the at least one movable support comprises at least one truck and is movably coupled to the rail such that the at least one truck can move along a longitudinal length of the rail.

4. The manifold assembly of claim 3 , wherein the at least one truck comprises at least one wheel configured to support and maintain the at least one truck on the rail.

5. The manifold assembly of claim 1 , wherein the platform assembly further comprises lifting tabs configured to connect with a lifting mechanism such that the manifold assembly can be lifted by the lifting mechanism via the lifting tabs.

6. The manifold assembly of claim 1 , wherein the platform assembly comprises a skid.

7. The manifold assembly of claim 1 , further comprising at least one jack configured to support and adjust a height of the platform assembly.

8. The manifold assembly of claim 1 , wherein the low pressure flow line is movable in opposite directions along a length of the portion of the platform assembly.

9. The manifold assembly of claim 1 , wherein the low pressure flow line is movable along the portion of the platform assembly relative to the high pressure flow line.

10. The manifold assembly of claim 1 , wherein the low pressure flow line comprises at least one handle to facilitate movement of the low pressure flow line relative to the portion of the platform assembly.

11. The manifold assembly of claim 1 , wherein the low pressure flow line comprises a flow line locking tab,

wherein the platform assembly comprises a platform locking tab configured to engage with the flow line locking tab to secure the low pressure flow line in place and limit movement of the low pressure flow line relative to the portion of the platform assembly.

12. The manifold assembly of claim 1 , wherein the high pressure flow line is mounted to the platform assembly via a vertical support.

13. The manifold assembly of claim 1 , wherein the low pressure flow line is a first low pressure flow line, the lower pressurized fluid is a first lower pressurized fluid, and the at least one hydraulic fracturing pump is at least one first hydraulic fracturing pump,

further comprising a second low pressure flow line movably mounted to the platform assembly and configured to convey a second lower pressurized fluid to at least one second hydraulic fracturing pump.

14. The manifold assembly of claim 1 , wherein the low pressure flow line comprises at least one outlet port configured to fluidly connect to the at least one hydraulic fracturing pump to convey the lower pressurized fluid to the at least one hydraulic fracturing pump,

wherein the at least one hydraulic fracturing pump is configured to pressurize the lower pressurized fluid from the low pressure flow line to create the higher pressurized fluid and supply the higher pressurized fluid to the high pressure flow line.

15. The manifold assembly of claim 1 , wherein the high pressure flow line comprises a plurality of high pressure modules connected in series by way of at least one pipe, wherein the high pressure flow line maintains a constant inner diameter through both the at least one pipe and at least one of the high pressure modules.

16. The manifold assembly of claim 15 , wherein at least one of the high pressure modules comprises a connector defining an input channel for the higher pressurized fluid to be delivered from the at least one hydraulic fracturing pump to the high pressure flow line.

17. The manifold assembly of claim 1 , wherein the higher pressurized fluid comprises a hydraulic fracturing fluid.

18. An apparatus for use in hydraulically fracturing a subterranean formation in which a wellbore extends, the apparatus comprising:

a platform assembly;

a low pressure flow line mounted to the platform assembly and configured to convey a lower pressurized fluid to at least one hydraulic fracturing pump;

a high pressure flow line mounted to the platform assembly configured to convey a higher pressurized fluid from the at least one hydraulic fracturing pump toward the wellbore to hydraulically fracture the subterranean formation; and

a valve assembly configured to control flow of and measure at least one characteristic of the higher pressurized fluid exiting a pipe connected to at least one high pressure module.

19. The apparatus of claim 18 , wherein the platform assembly is a first platform assembly, wherein the valve assembly is mounted on a second platform assembly.

20. The apparatus of claim 18 , wherein the platform assembly comprises a skid.

21. The apparatus of claim 18 , wherein the low pressure flow line is movable along its axis relative to the platform assembly.
