Abstract

An infrastructure monitoring assembly includes a nozzle cap defining an internal cavity; an antenna positioned at least partially external to the internal cavity; and the antenna covered with a non-metallic material. An infrastructure monitoring assembly includes a nozzle cap defining a first end and a second end, the first end defining a threaded bore configured to mount on a nozzle of a fire hydrant; a cover coupled to the nozzle cap opposite from the first end; an enclosure positioned at least partially between the cover and the first end, the enclosure at least partially defining a cavity; a monitoring device positioned within the cavity; and an antenna positioned between the cover and the first end of the nozzle cap, the antenna connected in electrical communication with the monitoring device, the antenna covered by a non-metallic material.

Claims (71)

1. An infrastructure monitoring assembly comprising:

a nozzle cap defining an internal cavity, the nozzle cap defining a threaded bore configured to mount on a nozzle of a fire hydrant;

an antenna positioned at least partially external to the internal cavity; and

the antenna covered with a non-metallic material.

2. The infrastructure monitoring assembly of claim 1 , wherein the antenna is enclosed between the non-metallic material and the nozzle cap.

3. The infrastructure monitoring assembly of claim 1 , further comprising an enclosure, the enclosure further defining the internal cavity.

4. The infrastructure monitoring assembly of claim 3 , further comprising a cover coupled to the enclosure, the cover further defining the internal cavity, the enclosure and the cover forming a water tight seal.

5. The infrastructure monitoring assembly of claim 3 , further comprising a monitoring device positioned within the enclosure.

6. The infrastructure monitoring assembly of claim 5 , wherein the monitoring device is connected in electrical communication with the antenna.

7. The infrastructure monitoring assembly of claim 1 , wherein:

the nozzle cap defines a bore extending through the nozzle cap to the internal cavity;

the infrastructure monitoring assembly further comprises a wire connected to the antenna; and

the wire extends through the bore.

8. The infrastructure monitoring assembly of claim 1 , wherein the nozzle cap comprises the non-metallic material.

9. The infrastructure monitoring assembly of claim 1 , wherein the antenna defines a curved shape.

10. The infrastructure monitoring assembly of claim 1 , wherein a curved portion of the antenna is positioned external to the internal cavity.

11. The infrastructure monitoring assembly of claim 1 , wherein:

the threaded bore is defined by a threaded portion of the nozzle cap; and

the threaded portion comprises a metallic material.

12. An infrastructure monitoring assembly comprising:

a nozzle cap defining an internal cavity, the nozzle cap defining a threaded portion configured to mount on a nozzle of a fire hydrant, the threaded portion comprising a metallic material;

an antenna positioned at least partially external to the internal cavity; and

the antenna covered with a non-metallic material.

13. The infrastructure monitoring assembly of claim 12 , wherein the antenna is enclosed between the non-metallic material and the nozzle cap.

14. The infrastructure monitoring assembly of claim 12 , further comprising an enclosure, the enclosure further defining the internal cavity.

15. The infrastructure monitoring assembly of claim 14 , further comprising a cover coupled to the enclosure, the cover further defining the internal cavity, the enclosure and the cover forming a water tight seal.

16. The infrastructure monitoring assembly of claim 12 , wherein:

the nozzle cap defines a bore extending through the nozzle cap to the internal cavity;

the infrastructure monitoring assembly further comprises a wire connected to the antenna; and

the wire extends through the bore.

17. An infrastructure monitoring assembly comprising:

a nozzle cap defining a first end and a second end, the first end defining a threaded bore configured to mount on a nozzle of a fire hydrant;

a cover coupled to the nozzle cap opposite from the first end;

an enclosure positioned at least partially between the cover and the first end, the enclosure at least partially defining a cavity;

a monitoring device positioned within the cavity; and

an antenna positioned between the cover and the first end of the nozzle cap, the antenna connected in electrical communication with the monitoring device, the antenna covered by a non-metallic material, the antenna positioned at least partially external to the cavity.

18. The infrastructure monitoring assembly of claim 17 , wherein the enclosure defines a bore extending to the cavity, and wherein the antenna is electrically connected to the monitoring device through the bore.

19. The infrastructure monitoring assembly of claim 18 , wherein a wire connects the antenna to the monitoring device, and wherein the wire extends through the bore.

20. The infrastructure monitoring assembly of claim 17 , wherein the antenna defines a curved portion, and wherein the curved portion is positioned external to the cavity.

21. The infrastructure monitoring assembly of claim 17 , wherein the nozzle cap comprises a metallic material.

22. The infrastructure monitoring assembly of claim 17 , wherein a portion of the antenna is positioned between the cover and the second end of the nozzle cap.

23. The infrastructure monitoring assembly of claim 22 , wherein the nozzle cap comprises a metallic material.

24. The infrastructure monitoring assembly of claim 22 , wherein at least a portion of the cavity is positioned between the first end and the second end.

25. An infrastructure monitoring assembly comprising:

a nozzle cap defining a first nozzle cap end and a second nozzle cap end, the first nozzle cap end defining a threaded bore configured to mount on a nozzle of a fire hydrant, the second nozzle cap end defining a nut;

an enclosure defining a first enclosure end and a second enclosure end, the first enclosure end coupled to the nozzle cap between the first nozzle cap end and the second nozzle cap end, the enclosure defining a cavity and a bore extending to the cavity;

a monitoring device positioned within the cavity; and

an antenna positioned at least partially external to the cavity, the antenna connected in electrical communication with the monitoring device through the bore, the antenna covered by a non-metallic material.

26. The infrastructure monitoring assembly of claim 25 , wherein a portion of the antenna defines a curved shape, and wherein the portion is positioned external to the cavity.

27. The infrastructure monitoring assembly of claim 25 , wherein the antenna is connected to the monitoring device by a wire extending through the bore.

28. The infrastructure monitoring assembly of claim 25 , wherein the cavity is at least partially positioned between the first nozzle cap end and the second nozzle cap end.

29. The infrastructure monitoring assembly of claim 25 , wherein the bore is positioned between the first nozzle cap end and the second nozzle cap end.

30. The infrastructure monitoring assembly of claim 25 , wherein the nozzle cap comprises a metallic material.

31. The infrastructure monitoring assembly of claim 25 , wherein the monitoring device comprises a sensor configured to detect vibrations.

32. The infrastructure monitoring assembly of claim 25 , wherein the monitoring device comprises a power source.

33. The infrastructure monitoring assembly of claim 25 , wherein the monitoring device comprises a processor.

34. An infrastructure monitoring assembly comprising:

a nozzle cap defining a first end and a second end, the first end defining a threaded bore configured to mount on a nozzle of a fire hydrant;

a cover coupled to the nozzle cap opposite from the first end;

an enclosure positioned at least partially between the cover and the first end, the enclosure at least partially defining a cavity;

a monitoring device positioned within the cavity; and

an antenna positioned between the cover and the first end of the nozzle cap, the antenna connected in electrical communication with the monitoring device, the antenna covered by a non-metallic material, the antenna defining a curved portion, the curved portion positioned external to the cavity.

35. An infrastructure monitoring assembly comprising:

a nozzle cap defining a first end and a second end, the first end defining a threaded bore configured to mount on a nozzle of a fire hydrant;

a cover coupled to the nozzle cap opposite from the first end;

an enclosure positioned at least partially between the cover and the first end, the enclosure at least partially defining a cavity;

a monitoring device positioned within the cavity; and

an antenna positioned between the cover and the first end of the nozzle cap, the antenna connected in electrical communication with the monitoring device, the antenna covered by a non-metallic material, a portion of the antenna positioned between the cover and the second end of the nozzle cap.

36. The infrastructure monitoring assembly of claim 35 , wherein the nozzle cap comprises a metallic material.

37. The infrastructure monitoring assembly of claim 35 , wherein at least a portion of the cavity is positioned between the first end and the second end.

38. The infrastructure monitoring assembly of claim 35 , wherein the antenna defines a curved portion, and wherein the curved portion is positioned external to the cavity.
