Hydroprocessing catalyst having an organic additive with overlaid metals using a chelant and method of making and using such catalyst
A highly active hydroprocessing catalyst that comprises a doped support having been impregnated with a metal-impregnation solution, comprising a complexing agent and a hydrogenation metal, and filled with an organic additive blend. The catalyst is made by providing a doped support particle followed by impregnating the doped support particle with a metal impregnation solution that contains both a hydrogenation metal component and a complexing agent component to provide a metal-impregnated doped support particle. The metal-impregnated doped support particle is dried, but not calcined, and impregnated with an organic additive blend component.
1. A method of making a hydroprocessing catalyst, the method comprises:
providing a doped support particle, comprising a dopant and an inorganic oxide;
impregnating said doped support particle with a metal impregnation solution, comprising at least one hydrogenation metal component and a metal complexing agent, to provide a metal-impregnated doped support particle;
drying said metal-impregnated doped support particle to provide a dried particle;
impregnating the dried particle with an organic additive blend, comprising an acetate compound and an unsaturated fatty amine compound to provide said hydroprocessing catalyst;
and wherein said dopant is either nickel or boron and said doped support particle comprises from 0.01 wt. % to 5 wt. % of said dopant.
2. The method as recited in claim 1 , wherein said organic additive blend has a weight ratio unsaturated fatty amine compound-to-acetate compound in the range from 30/70 to 90/10.
3. The method as recited in claim 2 , wherein said acetate compound is selected from the group consisting of alkyl acetates, ethoxy alkyl acetates, and methoxy alkyl acetates; and
wherein said unsaturated fatty amine compound is selected from the group consisting of unsaturated fatty amine compounds containing from 8 to 22 carbon atoms per molecule.
4. The method as recited in claim 3 , wherein said acetate compound is butyl carbitol acetate and said unsaturated fatty amine compound is oleylamine.

The method as recited in claim 1 , wherein the impregnating of said doped support particle with an overlay of at least one hydrogenation metal component includes molybdenum and either nickel or cobalt and provides an amount of nickel or cobalt in said hydroprocessing catalyst in the range of from 0.5 to 20 wt. %, and molybdenum in the range of from 5 to 50 wt. %, with the wt. % based on the metal as the element regardless of its actual form and the dry doped support particle, excluding said organic additive blend.

The method as recited in claim 5 , wherein said metal impregnation solution includes said metal complexing agent that is selected from the group consisting of sugar alcohols and compounds having at least 2 carboxylic moieties; and wherein said sugar alcohols are selected from the group consisting of sugar alcohols having from 4 to 7 carbon atoms per molecule.
7. The method as recited in claim 6 , wherein said sugar alcohols include xylitol and sorbitol and said compounds having at least 2 carboxylic moieties include citric acid and malic acid.
8. The method as recited in claim 7 , wherein said metal impregnation solution has a weight ratio of said metal complexing agent-to-said hydrogenation metal component in the range of from 0.1:1 to 0.9:1 based on the total mass of elemental metal per total mass of said metal complexing agent.
9. A hydroprocessing catalyst made by the method of claim 1 .
10. A hydroprocessing catalyst, comprising:
a doped support particle, comprising an inorganic oxide and from 0.01 to 5 wt. % nickel or boron, or both;
an overlayer mixture of a metal complexing agent, molybdenum, and either cobalt or nickel, or both; and
an impregnated organic additive blend, comprising an acetate compound and an unsaturated fatty amine.
11. A hydroprocess comprising: contacting under hydroprocessing conditions a hydrocarbon feedstock with any catalysts of claim 10 .
12. A hydroprocessing catalyst, comprising:
a doped support particle, comprising an inorganic oxide and from 0.01 to 5 wt. % nickel or boron, or both, impregnated with a metal impregnation solution, including a metal complexing agent, molybdenum, and either nickel or cobalt, or both; and
further having incorporated therein an organic additive blend, comprising an acetate compound and unsaturated fatty amine compound;
wherein said either nickel or cobalt, or both, is present in said hydroprocessing catalyst in an amount in the range of from 0.5 to 20 wt. %, and said molybdenum is present in said hydroprocessing catalyst in an amount in the range of from 5 to 50 wt. %, with the wt. % based the metal as the element regardless of its actual form and the dry doped support particle, excluding said organic additive blend; and wherein said organic additive blend has a weight ratio of unsaturated fatty amine compound-to-acetate compound in the range from 30/70 to 90/10.
13. The hydroprocessing catalyst as recited in claim 12 , further comprises a weight ratio of said organic additive blend to said metal-impregnated doped support, on a dry basis, impregnated into said metal-impregnated doped support in the range of from 1/8 to 1/2.

The hydroprocessing catalyst as recited in claim 13 , wherein said acetate compound is selected from the group consisting of alkyl acetates, ethoxy alkyl acetates, and methoxy alkyl acetates; and wherein said unsaturated fatty amine compound is selected from the group consisting of unsaturated fatty amine compounds containing from 8 to 22 carbon atoms per molecule.
15. The hydroprocessing catalyst as recited in claim 14 , wherein said acetate compound is butyl carbitol acetate and said unsaturated fatty amine compound is oleylamine.

The hydroprocessing catalyst as recited in claim 15 , wherein said metal complexing agent is selected from the group consisting of sugar alcohols and compounds having at least 2 carboxylic moieties; and wherein said sugar alcohols are selected from the group consisting of sugar alcohols having from 4 to 7 carbon atoms per molecule.

The hydroprocessing catalyst as recited in claim 16 , wherein said sugar alcohols include xylitol and sorbitol and said compounds having at least 2 carboxylic moieties include citric acid and malic acid; and wherein said metal impregnation solution has a weight ratio of said metal complexing agent-to-said hydrogenation metal component in the range of from 0.1:1 to 0.9:1 based on the total mass of elemental metal per total mass of said metal complexing agent.
