Abstract

The catheter device comprises a drive shaft connected to a motor, and a rotor mounted on the drive shaft at the distal end section. The rotor has a frame structure which is formed by a screw-like boundary frame and rotor struts extending radially inwards from the boundary frame. The rotor struts are fastened to the drive shaft by their ends opposite the boundary frame. Between the boundary frame and the drive shaft extends an elastic covering. The frame structure is made of an elastic material such that, after forced compression, the rotor unfolds automatically.

Claims (15)

1. An intravascular blood pump device comprising:

an impeller comprising proximal and distal bearings and one or more rotor blades disposed therebetween, and configured to pump blood through a subject's body;

a frame configured to be disposed around the impeller the frame comprising a proximal bushing and a distal bushing disposed on a distal side of the impeller; and

an axial shaft configured to pass through the proximal and distal bushings of the frame and the proximal and distal bearings of the impeller, the axial shaft:

being coupled to at least one of the proximal and distal bearings of the impeller, such that the at least one bearing is held in an axially-fixed position with respect to the axial shaft, and is not held in an axially-fixed position with respect to the proximal and distal bushings.

2. The intravascular blood pump device according to claim 1 , wherein the impeller is configured to pump blood from a first location within the patient's body to a second location within the patient's body.

3. The intravascular blood pump device according to claim 1 , wherein the impeller is configured to pump blood from a left ventricle of the subject to an aorta of the patient.

4. The intravascular blood pump device according to claim 1 , wherein the impeller is configured to pump blood from a left ventricle of the patient.

5. The intravascular blood pump device according to claim 1 , further comprising:

a motor configured to drive the impeller to pump blood through the subject's body, by rotating the impeller in a given direction of rotation; and

a drive shaft, a portion of which is configured to extend from outside a body of the patient to a pump section of the drive shaft, the drive shaft being configured to impart rotational motion from the motor to the impeller by rotating, at least a portion of the drive shaft comprising a plurality of wires disposed in a wound configuration that is such that, in response to the drive shaft rotating in the given direction of rotation, the plurality of wires disposed in the wound configuration at least partially wind, such that the portion of the drive shaft shortens axially.

6. A method comprising:

placing an intravascular blood pump device inside a body of a patient, the intravascular blood pump device including:

an impeller with a frame disposed around the impeller, the impeller including proximal and distal bearings and one or more rotor blades disposed therebetween, and the frame including a proximal bushing disposed on a proximal side of the impeller and a distal bushing disposed on a distal side of the impeller, and an axial shaft that passes through the proximal and distal bushings of the frame and the proximal and distal bearings of the impeller, the axial shaft being coupled to at least one of the proximal and distal bearings of the impeller, such that the at least one bearing is held in an axially-fixed position with respect to the axial shaft, and is not held in an axially-fixed position with respect to the proximal and distal bushings; and

pumping blood through the patient's body, using the impeller.
