Impeller for catheter pump
An impeller for a pump is disclosed herein. The impeller can include a hub having a fixed end and a free end. The impeller can also have a plurality of blades supported by the hub. Each blade can have a fixed end coupled to the hub and a free end. The impeller can have a stored configuration and a deployed configuration, the blades in the deployed configuration extending away from the hub, and the blades in the stored configuration being compressed against the hub.
1. An impeller for a catheter pump, the impeller comprising:
a hub having a proximal end portion and a distal end portion; and
a plurality of blades supported by the hub, the plurality of blades transitionable between a stored position and a deployed position, wherein each blade of the plurality of blades wraps around the hub by a wrapping angle between about 150 degrees and about 220 degrees.
2. The impeller of claim 1 , wherein each blade of the plurality of blades wraps around the hub by a wrapping angle between about 180 degrees and about 200 degrees.
3. The impeller of claim 1 , wherein at least one blade of the plurality of blades has a wrapping angle of 210 degrees.
4. The impeller of claim 1 , wherein the wrapping angle of each blade is selected to facilitate folding the blade into the stored position.
5. The impeller of claim 1 , wherein each blade includes a first fillet formed at a fixed end of the blade on a suction side, and a second fillet formed at the fixed end of the blade on a pressure side.
6. The impeller of claim 5 , wherein the first fillet supports the blade during rotation, and wherein the second fillet assists in folding the blade into the stored configuration.
7. The impeller of claim 5 , wherein the first fillet has a larger radius that the second fillet.
8. A catheter pump comprising:
a catheter; and
an impeller mounted at an end of the catheter, the impeller comprising:
a hub having a proximal end portion and a distal end portion; and
a plurality of blades supported by the hub, the plurality of blades transitionable between a stored position and a deployed position, wherein each blade of the plurality of blades wraps around the hub by a wrapping angle between about 150 degrees and about 220 degrees.
9. The catheter pump of claim 8 , wherein each blade of the plurality of blades wraps around the hub by a wrapping angle between about 180 degrees and about 200 degrees.
10. The catheter pump of claim 8 , wherein at least one blade of the plurality of blades has a wrapping angle of 210 degrees.
11. The catheter pump of claim 8 , wherein the wrapping angle of each blade is selected to facilitate folding the blade into the stored position.
12. The catheter pump of claim 8 , wherein each blade includes a first fillet formed at a fixed end of the blade on a suction side, and a second fillet formed at the fixed end of the blade on a pressure side.
13. The catheter pump of claim 12 , wherein the first fillet supports the blade during rotation, and wherein the second fillet assists in folding the blade into the stored configuration.
14. The catheter pump of claim 12 , wherein the first fillet has a larger radius that the second fillet.
15. A catheter pump comprising:
an expandable cannula; and
an impeller positioned within the expandable cannula, the impeller comprising:
a hub having a proximal end portion and a distal end portion; and
a plurality of blades supported by the hub, the plurality of blades transitionable between a stored position and a deployed position, wherein each blade of the plurality of blades wraps around the hub by a wrapping angle between about 150 degrees and about 220 degrees.
16. The catheter pump of claim 15 , wherein each blade of the plurality of blades wraps around the hub by a wrapping angle between about 180 degrees and about 200 degrees.
17. The catheter pump of claim 15 , wherein at least one blade of the plurality of blades has a wrapping angle of 210 degrees.
18. The catheter pump of claim 15 , wherein the wrapping angle of each blade is selected to facilitate folding the blade into the stored position.
19. The catheter pump of claim 15 , wherein each blade includes a first fillet formed at a fixed end of the blade on a suction side, and a second fillet formed at the fixed end of the blade on a pressure side.
20. The catheter pump of claim 19 , wherein the first fillet supports the blade during rotation, and wherein the second fillet assists in folding the blade into the stored configuration.
