Abstract

A system for facilitating interoperability among health care modules includes an interface configured to receive a first electronic record from a first health care module. The first electronic record has a first data structure. The system also includes a processor communicatively coupled to the interface. The processor is configured to analyze the first electronic record having the first data structure, and, based on the analysis, extract a portion of data from the first electronic record. The processor further creates a second electronic record using the portion of data from the first electronic record, where the second electronic record has a second data structure. The second data structure is configured to be compatible with a second health care module. The interface is further configured to transmit the second electronic record for display to the second health care module.

based at least on the extracted data from the first and the second electronic records, create, by at least executing the code, a third electronic record comprising data relating to the prescription and data relating to the insurance, the third electronic record having a third data structure that is compatible with the second computing device, wherein the third data structure is different from each of the first and second data structures; and

based on the third electronic record, determine whether the prescription is covered for the patient.

2. The system of claim 1 , the processor further configured to:

based on the third electronic record, determine that the prescription is covered for the patient; and

in response to determining that the prescription is covered for the patient, cause to transmit an indication that the prescription is covered.

3. The system of claim 1 , the processor further configured to:

based on the third electronic record, determine that the prescription is covered for the patient;

determine a cost for the prescription;

in response to determining that the prescription is covered for the patient, cause to transmit an indication of the cost of the prescription.

4. The system of claim 1 , the processor further configured to:

based on the third electronic record, determine that the prescription is not covered for the patient;

in response to determining that the prescription is not covered for the patient, determine an alternative prescription that is covered for the patient; and

cause to transmit an indication of the alternative prescription.

5. The system of claim 1 , the processor further configured to:

based on the third electronic record, determine at least two options of alternative prescriptions that are covered for the patient; and

cause to transmit an indication of the alternative prescriptions.

6. The system of claim 1 , the processor further configured to:

based on the third electronic record, determine that there are no alternative prescriptions that are covered for the patient; and

cause to transmit an indication that there are no alternative prescriptions that are covered for the patient.

7. The system of claim 1 , the processor further configured to:

extract data relating to a plurality of prescriptions of the patient from the first electronic record;

create a fourth electronic record comprising data relating to the plurality of prescriptions of the patient and the data relating to insurance of the patient; and

based on the fourth electronic record, generate a report regarding the plurality of prescriptions of the patient, the report comprising a cost of each prescription of the plurality of prescriptions.

8. The system of claim 1 , wherein the prescription is for a medical device.

9. The system of claim 1 , the processor further configured to:

extract data relating to a plurality of prescriptions from the first electronic record;

create a fourth electronic record comprising the data relating to the plurality of prescriptions; and

cause to transmit the fourth electronic record.

10. The system of claim 1 , the processor further configured to:

extract data relating to a diagnosis code from the first electronic record of the patient;

determine that the prescription is associated with the diagnosis code;

create a fourth electronic record comprising an indication that the prescription is associated with the diagnosis code.

11. A non-transitory computer-readable medium encoded with logic, the logic, when executed by a processor, operable to:

store code configured for extracting data from electronic records and creating additional electronic records in a desired data structure that is different from an initial data structure;

receive a first electronic record of a patient, the first electronic record having a first data structure;

receive a second electronic record from a first computing device associated with an insurance organization, the second electronic record having a second data structure, wherein the second data structure is incompatible with a second computing device associated with a patient;

extract, by at least executing the code, data relating to a prescription from the first electronic record;

extract, by at least executing the code, data relating to insurance of the patient from the second electronic record;

based at least on the extracted data from the first and the second electronic records, create, by at least executing the code, a third electronic record comprising data relating to the prescription and data relating to the insurance, the third electronic record having a third data structure that is compatible with the second computing device, wherein the third data structure is different from each of the first and second data structures; and

based on the third electronic record, determine whether the prescription is covered for the patient.

12. The computer-readable medium of claim 11 , wherein the logic is further operable to:

based on the third electronic record, determine that the prescription is covered for the patient; and

in response to determining that the prescription is covered for the patient, transmit an indication that the prescription is covered.

13. The computer-readable medium of claim 11 , wherein the logic is further operable to:

based on the third electronic record, determine that the prescription is covered for the patient;

determine a cost for the prescription;

in response to determining that the prescription is covered for the patient, transmit an indication of the cost of the prescription.

14. The computer-readable medium of claim 11 , wherein the logic is further operable to:

based on the third electronic record, determine that the prescription is not covered for the patient;

in response to determining that the prescription is not covered for the patient, determine an alternative prescription that is covered for the patient; and

transmit an indication of the alternative prescription.
