Prosthetic heart valve docking assembly
In a representative embodiment, a method comprises implanting first and second inflatable bodies within an annulus of a native heart valve by securing the inflatable bodies to tissue of the native heart valve with sutures, and implanting a prosthetic heart valve between the inflatable bodies such that the prosthetic heart valve is retained within the annulus by the inflatable bodies.
1. A method comprising:
implanting first and second inflatable bodies within an annulus of a native heart valve by securing the inflatable bodies to tissue of the native heart valve with sutures; and
implanting a prosthetic heart valve between the inflatable bodies such that the prosthetic heart valve is retained within the annulus by the inflatable bodies.
2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the sutures comprise first and second sutures and the method further comprises implanting the first and second sutures on tissue of the native heart valve via catheterization prior to implanting the inflatable bodies and wherein implanting the inflatable bodies comprises delivering the inflatable bodies to the native heart valve along the first and second sutures.
3. The method of claim 1 , wherein implanting the inflatable bodies comprises delivering the inflatable bodies to the annulus in a non-inflated state, positioning the inflatable bodies at respective locations within the annulus, and introducing an inflation medium into the inflatable bodies to inflate the inflatable bodies from the non-inflated state to an inflated state.
4. The method of claim 3 , wherein introducing the inflation medium into the inflatable bodies comprises injecting a curable polymer in liquid from into the inflatable bodies.
5. The method of claim 1 , wherein implanting the inflatable bodies comprises securing the inflatable bodies to commissures to a native mitral valve.
6. The method of claim 1 , wherein each of the inflatable bodies comprises upper and lower flanges that extend radially inward of a frame of the prosthetic valve.
7. The method of claim 1 , wherein implanting the prosthetic heart valve comprises delivering the prosthetic heart valve in a radially compressed state to a location between the first and second bodies and radially expanding the prosthetic heart valve to an expanded state.
8. The method of claim 1 , wherein each of the inflatable bodies comprises a polymeric inner layer and a braided or woven outer layer.
9. A method comprising:
implanting first and second inflatable bodies within an annulus of a native heart valve; and
implanting a prosthetic heart valve between the first and second inflatable bodies such that the prosthetic heart valve is retained within the annulus by the first and second inflatable bodies;
wherein each of the first and second inflatable bodies comprises a polymeric inner layer and a braided or woven outer layer.
10. The method of claim 9 , wherein the method further comprises implanting first and second sutures on tissue of the native heart valve via catheterization prior to implanting the first and second inflatable bodies and wherein implanting the first and second inflatable bodies comprises delivering the first and second inflatable bodies to the native heart valve along the first and second sutures.
11. The method of claim 9 , wherein implanting the first and second inflatable bodies comprises delivering the first and second bodies to the annulus in a non-inflated state, positioning the first and second bodies at respective locations within the annulus, and introducing an inflation medium into the first and second inflatable bodies in inflate the first and second inflatable bodies from the non-inflated state to an inflated state.
12. The method of claim 11 , wherein introducing the inflation medium into the first and second inflatable bodies comprises injecting a curable polymer in liquid form into the first and second inflatable bodies.
13. The method of claim 11 , wherein implanting the first and second inflatable bodies comprises securing the first and second inflatable bodies to commissures of a native mitral valve.
14. The method of claim 11 , wherein each of the first and second inflatable bodies comprises upper and lower flanges that extend radially inward of a frame of the prosthetic valve.
15. The method of claim 11 , wherein implanting the prosthetic heart valve comprises delivering the prosthetic heart valve in a radially compressed state to a location between the first and second inflatable bodies and radially expanding the prosthetic heart valve to an expanded state.
16. A method comprising:
implanting first and second sutures on tissue of a native heart valve of a patient via catheterization;
delivering first and second inflatable bodies to the native heart valve along the sutures, wherein the first and second inflatable bodies are in a non-inflated state;
inflating the first and second inflatable bodies from the non-inflated state to an inflated state with an inflation medium from a source of the inflation medium located outside the patient;
delivering a prosthetic heart valve in a radially compressed state to a location between the first and second inflatable bodies; and
radially expanding the prosthetic heart valve to an expanded state between the first and second inflatable bodies such that the prosthetic heart valve is retained within the native heart valve by the first and second inflatable bodies.
