Dynamically altering shared content
Systems and methods for dynamically altering shared content are provided. A set of media items to be shared with users of a content sharing service is identified. The set of media items includes a first media item associated with a first media item type and multiple second media items each associated with a second media item type. Each of the second media items correspond to at least one of a geographic location or a content preference associated with client devices connected to the content sharing service. In response to receiving a request for content from a first client device of the client devices connected to the content sharing service, a second media item is identified among the second media items. The identified second media item corresponds to a geographic location or a content preference associated with the first client device. The set of media items is updated by replacing the multiple second media items with the identified second media items and the updated set of media items is transmitted to the first client device, in accordance with the request for content.
1. A method comprising:
identifying a set of media items to be shared with users of a content sharing service, wherein the set of media items comprises a first media item associated with a first media item type and a plurality of second media items each associated with a second media item type;
responsive to receiving a request for content from a first client device of client devices connected to the content sharing service, determining a geographic location associated with the first client device based at least in part on a network address of the first client device;
identifying, among the plurality of second media items, at least one second media item to be included in the set of media items, wherein the at least one second media item is identified based on a popularity level of the at least one second media item in a region corresponding to the determined geographic location associated with the first client device;
updating the set of media items to replace the plurality of second media items with the identified at least one second media item; and
transmitting, by the content sharing service, the updated set of media items including the first media item and the identified at least one second media item to the first client device, in accordance with the request for content.
2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the first media item type and the second media item type each correspond to at least one of a video item type, an image item type, or an audio item type.
3. The method of claim 2 , wherein the first media item type is a video item type or an image item type and the second media item type is an audio item type.
4. The method of claim 1 , wherein identifying the set of media items to be shared with the users of the content sharing service comprises:
receiving one or more media items of the set of media items from a second client device of the client devices connected to the content sharing service.
5. The method of claim 4 , wherein receiving the one or more media items of the set of media items from the second client device comprises:
receiving, from the second client device, the first media item associated with the first media item type and a data structure for the plurality of second media items each associated with the second media item type, wherein each entry of the data structure comprises an indication of a second media item of the plurality of second media items and an indication of a corresponding geographic location.
6. The method of claim 5 , wherein the data structure further comprises a default entry that includes an indication of a default second media item to be shared with the first client device in response to a determination that the geographical location associated with the first client device is not identifiable.
7. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:
determining that a user associated with the first client device is unregistered and unknown to the content sharing service; and
identifying the geographic location associated with the first client device.
8. The method of claim 1 , wherein the at least one second media item is further identified in view of a content preference associated with the first client device.
9. The method of claim 1 , wherein the first media item type corresponds to a primary media item associated with a content sharing service and the second media item type corresponds to a secondary media item associated with an online shared content network.
10. A system comprising:
a memory; and
a processor coupled to the memory, the processor to:
identify a set of media items to be shared with users of a content sharing service, wherein the set of media items comprises a first media item associated with a first media item type and a plurality of second media items each associated with a second media item type;
responsive to receiving a request for content from a first client device of client devices connected to the content sharing service, determine a geographic location associated with the first client device based at least in part on a network address of the first client device;
identify, among the plurality of second media items, at least one second media item to be included in the set of media items, wherein the at least one second media item is identified based on a popularity level of the at least one second media item in a region corresponding to the determined geographic location associated with the first client device;
update the set of media items to replace the plurality of second media items with the identified at least one second media item; and
transmit, by the content sharing service, the updated set of media items including the first media item and the identified at least one second media item to the first client device, in accordance with the request for content.
11. The system of claim 10 , wherein the first media item type and the second media item type each correspond to at least one of a video item type, an image item type, or an audio item type.
12. The system of claim 11 , wherein the first media item type is a video item type or an image item type and the second media item type is an audio item type.
13. The system of claim 10 , wherein to identify the set of media items to be shared with the users of the content sharing service, the processor is to:
receive one or more media items of the set of media items from a second client device of the client devices connected to the content sharing service; and
store the received one or more media items at the memory.
14. The system of claim 13 , wherein to receive the one or more media items of the set of media items from the second client device, the processor is to:
receive, from the second client device, the first media item associated with the first media item type and a data structure for the plurality of second media items each associated with the second media item type, wherein each entry of the data structure comprises an indication of a second media item of the plurality of second media items and an indication of a corresponding geographic location.
15. The system of claim 14 , wherein the data structure further comprises a default entry that includes an indication of a default second media item to be shared with the first client device in response to a determination that the geographical location associated with the first client device is not identifiable.
16. A non-transitory computer readable medium comprising instructions that cause a processor to:
identify a set of media items to be shared with users of a content sharing service, wherein the set of media items comprises a first media item associated with a first media item type and a plurality of second media items each associated with a second media item type;
