Abstract

Systems and methods are disclosed for navigating a host vehicle. In one implementation, at least one processor may be programmed to obtain images representative of an environment of a host vehicle; identify, from the images, a feature of a roadway used to navigate the host vehicle on a path, the identified feature of the roadway having an ambiguity along the path; obtain map data associated with the environment to resolve the ambiguity of the identified feature; and generate a trajectory to navigate the host vehicle on the roadway, using the map data associated with the environment.

Claims (31)

1. At least one non-transitory machine-readable storage medium comprising instructions, which when executed by processor circuitry of a computing device, cause the processor circuitry to perform operations to:

obtain images representative of an environment of a host vehicle;

identify, from the images, a feature of a roadway used to navigate the host vehicle on a path, the identified feature of the roadway comprising an incomplete marking on the roadway having an ambiguity;

obtain map data associated with the environment to resolve the ambiguity of the incomplete marking on the roadway; and

generate a trajectory to navigate the host vehicle on the roadway and continue travel on the path, using the map data associated with the environment.

2. The machine-readable storage medium of claim 1 , wherein the map data to resolve the ambiguity comprises representations of features of the environment, and the instructions further cause the processor circuitry to perform operations to:

match features of the environment identified from the images with the representations of the features of the environment obtained from the map data, to localize a position of the host vehicle within a segment of the roadway.

3. The machine-readable storage medium of claim 2 , wherein the map data to resolve the ambiguity comprises polynomial representations of the features of the environment that are located on or adjacent to the roadway.

4. The machine-readable storage medium of claim 2 , wherein each of the features of the environment has a corresponding data representation in the map data.

5. The machine-readable storage medium of claim 4 , wherein the features comprise at least one of: lane markings, traffic signs, traffic lights, poles, or roadway objects.

6. The machine-readable storage medium of claim 2 , wherein the map data to resolve the ambiguity includes navigation instructions to identify a path at a lane merge, lane fork, intersection, junction, or traffic circle of the roadway.

7. The machine-readable storage medium of claim 1 , wherein the trajectory to navigate the host vehicle on the roadway is further generated based on distance information associated with the path.

8. The machine-readable storage medium of claim 1 , wherein the generated trajectory of the host vehicle represents a planned driving action for accomplishing a navigational goal of the host vehicle on a planned route, and wherein the generated trajectory is used to change a current trajectory of the host vehicle.

9. The machine-readable storage medium of claim 1 , wherein the images are captured by a multi-camera system of the host vehicle, and wherein each camera of the multi-camera system has a different field of view of the environment.

10. The machine-readable storage medium of claim 1 , wherein the instructions further cause the processor circuitry to obtain additional sensor data from a sensor device of the host vehicle, wherein the additional sensor data is used to provide additional information associated with the environment.

11. A computing device, comprising:

at least one interface to receive image data obtained from at least one image capture device, the image data representative of an environment of a host vehicle; and

at least one processor configured to perform operations to:

identify, from the image data, a feature of a roadway used to navigate the host vehicle on a path, the identified feature of the roadway comprising an incomplete marking on the roadway having an ambiguity;

obtain map data associated with the environment to resolve the ambiguity of the incomplete marking on the roadway; and

generate a trajectory to navigate the host vehicle on the roadway and continue travel on the path, using the map data associated with the environment.

12. The computing device of claim 11 , wherein the map data to resolve the ambiguity comprises representations of features of the environment, and the processor is further configured to perform operations to:

match features of the environment identified from the image data with the representations of the features of the environment obtained from the map data, to localize a position of the host vehicle within a segment of the roadway.

13. The computing device of claim 12 , wherein the map data to resolve the ambiguity comprises polynomial representations of the features of the environment that are located on or adjacent to the roadway.

14. The computing device of claim 12 , wherein each of the features of the environment has a corresponding data representation.

15. The computing device of claim 14 , wherein the features comprise at least one of: lane markings, traffic signs, traffic lights, poles, or roadway objects.

16. The computing device of claim 11 , wherein the map data to resolve the ambiguity includes navigation instructions to identify a path at a lane merge, lane fork, intersection, junction, or traffic circle of the roadway.

17. The computing device of claim 11 , wherein the trajectory to navigate the host vehicle on the roadway is further generated based on distance information associated with the path.

18. The computing device of claim 11 , wherein the generated trajectory of the host vehicle represents a planned driving action for accomplishing a navigational goal of the host vehicle on a planned route, and wherein the generated trajectory is used to change a current trajectory of the host vehicle.

19. The computing device of claim 11 , wherein the image data are captured by a multi-camera system of the host vehicle, and wherein each camera of the multi-camera system has a different field of view of the environment.

20. The computing device of claim 11 , wherein the processor is configured to perform operations to obtain additional sensor data from a sensor device of the host vehicle, wherein the additional sensor data is used to provide additional information associated with the environment.
