Abstract

A jet pump includes a propulsion system including an impeller coupled to a rotatable shaft configured to receive torque from an engine and an exhaust system including an exhaust flow path configured to direct exhaust from the engine to an exterior of the watercraft, wherein the exhaust system is separate from the propulsion system. The propulsion system includes a water intake configured to take in water from a body of water, the water intake including an intake grate and a base, and an exhaust system including an exhaust flow path configured to direct exhaust from the engine to an exterior of the watercraft, wherein the base of the water intake is configured to be coupled to an exterior surface of a hull of the watercraft.

Claims (36)

1. A jet pump for a watercraft, the jet pump comprising:

a propulsion system including a water intake configured to take in water from a body of water, the water intake including an intake grate and a base; and

an exhaust system including an exhaust flow path configured to direct exhaust from an engine to an exterior of the watercraft,

an intake mount coupled to an exterior surface of a hull of the watercraft;

two gasket members configured to be positioned between the base of the water intake and the intake mount of the watercraft,

wherein the base of the water intake is configured to be coupled to the intake mount.

2. The jet pump of claim 1 , wherein the propulsion system includes a reversing bucket and an electro-mechanical actuator operatively coupled to the reversing bucket for moving the reversing bucket between at least an up position and a down position.

3. The jet pump of claim 1 , wherein the base of the water intake has a lip and one of the two gasket members is above the lip of the water intake and the other of the two gasket members is below the lip of the water intake.

4. The jet pump of claim 1 , wherein the water intake further comprises a mounting plate including a conduit port sized to allow a rotatable shaft from a marine engine to pass through the conduit port, the mounting plate extending upwardly from a main body of the water intake.

5. The jet pump of claim 1 , wherein the water intake has a main body defining an intake passageway extending between an inlet and an outlet.

6. The jet pump of claim 5 , wherein the main body of the water intake includes a mounting flange positioned at or near the outlet for coupling the water intake to an impeller housing of the propulsion system.

7. The jet pump of claim 1 , wherein the intake mount has a generally U-shaped flange along an outer periphery of the intake mount and a bottom surface of the hull has a corresponding generally U-shaped recess for receiving the generally U-shaped flange of the intake mount.

8. A watercraft comprising:

the jet pump of claim 1 ; and

a marine engine.

9. A jet pump for a watercraft, the jet pump comprising:

a propulsion system including a water intake configured to take in water from a body of water, the water intake including an intake grate and a base; and

an exhaust system including an exhaust flow path configured to direct exhaust from an engine to an exterior of the watercraft,

wherein the base of the water intake is configured to be coupled to an exterior surface of a hull of the watercraft, and

wherein the propulsion system includes a reversing bucket and an electro-mechanical actuator operatively coupled to the reversing bucket for moving the reversing bucket between at least an up position and a down position, wherein the electro-mechanical actuator is configured to be positioned external to the hull of the watercraft.

10. The jet pump of claim 9 , wherein the water intake further comprises a mounting plate including a conduit port sized to allow a rotatable shaft from a marine engine to pass through the conduit port, the mounting plate extending upwardly from the main body of the water intake.

11. The jet pump of claim 9 , wherein the propulsion system includes an impeller coupled to a rotatable shaft configured to receive torque from the engine.

12. The jet pump of claim 11 , wherein the impeller is downstream of the water intake.

13. The jet pump of claim 12 , wherein the water intake has a main body defining an intake passageway extending between an inlet and an outlet.

14. The jet pump of claim 13 , wherein the main body of the water intake has an opening adapted to be covered by a cleanout cover.

15. A jet pump for a watercraft, the jet pump comprising:

a propulsion system including a water intake configured to take in water from a body of water, the water intake including an intake grate and a base having a lip extending at least partially about the periphery thereof; and

an exhaust system including an exhaust flow path configured to direct exhaust from an engine to an exterior of the watercraft,

a generally U-shaped intake mount coupled to an exterior surface of a hull of the watercraft having first and second ends defining a space for receiving the base of the water intake, the generally U-shaped intake mount having a channel having a generally C-shaped cross section along an inner periphery of the generally U-shaped intake mount for mating with the lip of the base of the water intake;

two gasket members configured to be positioned between the lip of the base of the water intake and the generally U-shaped intake mount,

wherein the generally U-shaped intake mount is configured to be coupled to an exterior surface of the hull of the watercraft.

16. The jet pump of claim 15 , wherein the intake grate of the water intake is positioned at the inlet of the water intake.

17. The jet pump of claim 15 , wherein the propulsion system includes an impeller coupled to a rotatable shaft configured to receive torque from a marine engine.

18. The jet pump of claim 17 , wherein the impeller is downstream of the water intake.

19. The jet pump of claim 15 , wherein the water intake has a main body defining an intake passageway extending between an inlet and an outlet.

20. The jet pump of claim 15 , wherein the intake grate of the water intake is positioned at the inlet of the water intake.
