Abstract

A delivery assembly includes a prosthetic device, a catheter shaft, a release wire, a first line, and a second line. The prosthetic device has a first arm and a second arm. The release wire extends through the catheter shaft. The first line includes a first loop. The first line extends from the catheter shaft, through the first arm of the prosthetic device, and to the release wire, where the release wire extends through the first loop. The second line includes a second loop. The second line extends from the catheter shaft, through the second arm of the prosthetic device, and to the release wire, where the release wire extends through the second loop.

Claims (30)

1. A prosthetic heart valve comprising:

a valve member comprising an annular skirt and a plurality of leaflets, each of the plurality of leaflets having an inflow end section and an outflow end section, the annular skirt disposed at the inflow end section of each of the plurality of leaflets; and

a support frame configured to support the valve member and to be radially expandable and compressible, wherein the support frame comprises a plurality of strut members interconnected to each other to form a mesh structure, wherein the mesh structure comprises exactly four rows of diamond-shaped cells formed from the strut members, including an inflow row of cells defining an inflow terminal end of the mesh structure and an outflow row of cells defining an outflow terminal end of the mesh structure;

wherein the support frame further comprises a plurality of angularly spaced retaining arms that extend from the outflow terminal end of the mesh structure and are configured to releasably engage with a complementarily configured valve-retaining mechanism of a delivery apparatus, wherein each of the plurality of angularly spaced retaining arms comprises a stem portion and a circular head portion, the stem portion connected to the outflow terminal end of the mesh structure;

wherein the inflow end section of each of the plurality of leaflets is coupled to the support frame with sutures that secure the annular skirt to at least some of the plurality of strut members that form the inflow row of cells.

2. The prosthetic heart valve of claim 1 , wherein the circular head portion has a greater circumferential dimension than the stem portion.

3. The prosthetic heart valve of claim 2 , wherein the stem portion is straight.

4. The prosthetic heart valve of claim 1 , wherein each row of diamond-shaped cells includes the same number of cells.

5. The prosthetic heart valve of claim 1 , wherein the leaflets are made of pericardial tissue and the annular skirt is made of a woven fabric.

6. The prosthetic heart valve of claim 1 , wherein the cells of the outflow row of cells are longer in an axial direction than the cells of the inflow row of cells.

7. The prosthetic heart valve of claim 1 , wherein the inflow end section of each of the plurality of leaflets is secured to the skirt by a suture line that extends across cells of the inflow row of cells.

8. The prosthetic heart valve of claim 7 , wherein the suture line bisects cells of the inflow row of cells.

9. The prosthetic heart valve of claim 1 , wherein the plurality of leaflets define a plurality of angularly spaced commissures that are secured to the inside of the mesh structure.

10. The prosthetic heart valve of claim 1 , wherein the inflow row of cells is formed by first and second rows of the strut members and wherein the skirt is sutured to the strut members of the first and second rows of strut members.

11. The prosthetic heart valve of claim 1 , wherein the support frame is made of Nitinol and is self-expandable from a radially compressed state to a radially expanded state.

12. A prosthetic heart valve comprising:

a valve member comprising an annular skirt and a plurality of leaflets, each of the plurality of leaflets having an inflow end section and an outflow end section, the annular skirt disposed at the inflow end section of each of the plurality of leaflets; and

a support frame configured to support the valve member and to be radially expandable and compressible, wherein the support frame comprises a plurality of strut members interconnected to each other to form a mesh structure, wherein the mesh structure comprises a plurality of rows of diamond-shaped cells formed from the strut members, including an inflow row of cells defining an inflow terminal end of the mesh structure and an outflow row of cells defining an outflow terminal end of the mesh structure;

wherein the support frame further comprises a plurality of angularly spaced retaining arms that extend from the outflow terminal end and are configured to releasably engage with a complementarily configured valve-retaining mechanism of a delivery apparatus, wherein each of the plurality of angularly spaced retaining arms comprises a stem portion connected at one thereof to the mesh structure and at another end thereof to a circular head portion of the retaining arm.

13. The prosthetic heart valve of claim 12 , wherein the circular head portion has a greater circumferential dimension than the stem portion.

14. The prosthetic heart valve of claim 12 , wherein the inflow end section of each of the plurality of leaflets is coupled to the support frame with sutures that secure the annular skirt to at least some of the plurality of strut members that form the inflow row of cells.

15. The prosthetic heart valve of claim 12 , wherein the plurality of rows of diamond-shaped cells includes exactly four rows of diamond-shaped cells.

16. A prosthetic heart valve comprising:

a valve member comprising an annular skirt and a plurality of leaflets, each of the plurality of leaflets having an inflow end section and an outflow end section, the annular skirt disposed at the inflow end section of each of the plurality of leaflets; and

a support frame configured to support the valve member and to be radially expandable and compressible, wherein the support frame comprises a plurality of circumferentially extending rows strut members forming a mesh structure, wherein the rows of strut members include a first row of strut members defining an inflow terminal end of the mesh structure, a second row of strut members downstream of the first row of strut members, a third row of strut members downstream of the second row of strut members, and a fourth row of strut members downstream of the third row of strut members;

wherein the inflow end section of each of the plurality of leaflets are sutured to the annular skirt along a suture line and the annular skirt is sutured to the strut members of the first and second rows of strut members.

17. The prosthetic heart valve of claim 16 , wherein the first and second rows of strut members form an inflow row of diamond-shaped cells, and the suture line extends across cells of the inflow row of diamond-shaped cells.

18. The prosthetic heart valve of claim 16 , wherein the mesh structure further comprises a fifth row of strut members downstream of the fourth row of strut members and defining an outflow terminal end of the mesh structure.

19. The prosthetic heart valve of claim 18 , wherein the rows of strut members define exactly four rows of diamond-shaped cells of the mesh structure.

20. The prosthetic heart valve of claim 19 , wherein each row of diamond-shaped cells includes the same number of cells.
