Abstract

A system includes a method for detecting a signal interference in a communication signal of a wireless communication system. An identified source of the signal interference is determined according to an interference profile of a plurality of interference profiles associated with an interference profile library having information that approximates characteristics of the signal interference. The signal interference of the communication signal is mitigated according to an interference parameter associated with the identified source by filtering the communication signal according to the interference parameter.

Claims (28)

1. A non-transitory machine-readable medium comprising executable instructions that, when executed by a first processing system including a first processor, facilitate performance of operations, the operations comprising:

receiving, at the first processing system from a second processing system, first information indicative of a source of signal interference, wherein the first processing system and the second processing system are elements of a wireless communication system that facilitates communication with a mobile communication device, wherein the second processing system determines signal interference communicated over the wireless communication system and identifies the source of the signal interference based on a comparison of the signal interference with a plurality of interference profiles of an interference profile library; and

transmitting, by the first processing system, second information to the mobile communication device, the second information being based upon the first information, the second information enabling the mobile communication device to mitigate the signal interference.

2. The non-transitory machine-readable medium of claim 1 , wherein the first processing system comprises a first base station and wherein the second processing system comprises a second base station of the wireless communication system.

3. The non-transitory machine-readable medium of claim 2 , wherein the first base station comprises a cellular base station and wherein the second base station comprises a smaller version of the first base station.

4. The non-transitory machine-readable medium of claim 2 , wherein the first base station comprises a cellular base station and wherein the second base station comprises a more portable version of the first base station.

5. The non-transitory machine-readable medium of claim 2 , wherein the first base station comprises a macro base station and wherein the second base station comprises a femto cell.

6. The non-transitory machine-readable medium of claim 1 , wherein the first processing system comprises a macro base station and wherein the second processing system comprises a WiFi access point.

7. The non-transitory machine-readable medium of claim 1 , wherein the second information comprises an interference parameter.

8. The non-transitory machine-readable medium of claim 7 , wherein the signal interference is in a communication signal communicated over the wireless communication system, and wherein the interference parameter enables the mobile communication device to select a filter type for processing the communication signal according to the interference parameter.

9. The non-transitory machine-readable medium of claim 1 , wherein the operations further comprise monitoring each resource block of a plurality of resource blocks detect the signal interference in at least one resource block of the plurality of resource blocks.

10. The non-transitory machine-readable medium of claim 9 , wherein the monitoring each resource block comprises monitoring each resource block according to an adaptive threshold.

11. The non-transitory machine-readable medium of claim 1 , wherein the signal interference is in a communication signal communicated over the wireless communication system, and wherein the receiving the first information indicative of a source of signal interference is responsive to receiving, by the second processing system, the communication signal.

12. The non-transitory machine-readable medium of claim 1 , wherein the receiving the first information indicative of a source of signal interference is responsive to detecting, by the second processing system, the signal interference in a first resource block of a plurality of resource blocks in a radio frequency spectrum.

13. The non-transitory machine-readable medium of claim 1 , wherein the mobile communication device comprises a cell phone, and wherein the cell phone is enabled to mitigate the signal interference on a downlink to the cell phone of the wireless communication system.

14. A first device that is part of a wireless communication system that facilitates communication with a mobile communication device, the wireless communication system carrying network traffic, the first device comprising:

a processing system including a processor; and

a memory that stores executable instructions that, when executed by the processing system, facilitate performance of operations, the operations comprising:

receiving, from a second device, first information indicative of a source of a signal interference communicated over the wireless communication system, the source of the signal interference being identified by the second device based on a comparison of the signal interference with a plurality of interference profiles of an interference profile library; and

transmitting by the second device, to the mobile communication device, second information indicative of the source of the signal interference, the transmitting of the second information to the mobile communication device enabling the mobile communication device to mitigate the signal interference.

15. The first device of claim 14 , wherein the first device comprises a first base station of the wireless communication system and wherein the second device comprises a second base station of the wireless communication system.

16. The first device of claim 15 , wherein the second base station comprises a cellular base station and wherein the first base station comprises a more portable version of the second base station.

17. The first device of claim 15 , wherein the second base station comprises a macro base station and wherein the first base station comprises a femto cell.

18. A method, comprising:

receiving, by a first processing system, from a second processing system, first information indicative of a source of signal interference, the first processing system including a first processor and the second processing system including a second processor, the first processing system and the second processing system being part of a wireless communication system that facilitates communication with a mobile communication device, the first information indicative of a source of signal interference being generated by the second processing system responsive to identifying by the second processing system the source of signal interference based on a comparison of the signal interference with a plurality of interference profiles of an interference profile library; and

transmitting by the first processing system, to the mobile communication device, second information indicative of the source of the signal interference, the transmitting of the second information to the mobile communication device enabling the mobile communication device to mitigate the signal interference.

19. The method of claim 18 , wherein the wireless communication system carries network traffic, and wherein the second processing system determines the signal interference according to an effect of the signal interference on the network traffic.

20. The method of claim 18 , wherein the first processing system comprises an element of a first base station, wherein the second processing system comprises an element of a second base station, wherein the first base station is a cellular base station, and wherein the second base station is a smaller version of the first base station.
