Abstract

An organ evaluation device, system, or method is configured to receive electrophysiological data from a patient or model organism and integrates the data in a computational backend environment with anatomical data input from an external source, spanning a plurality of file formats, where the input parameters are combined to visualize and output current density and/or current flow activity having ampere-based units displayed in the spatial context of heart or other organ anatomy.

Claims (32)

1. A method of treating an individual with a cardiac arrhythmia, the method comprising:

(a) measuring at least one magnetic field data generated by a heart of the individual;

(b) translating the measured at least one magnetic field data to at least one electrical current vector of the heart of the individual;

(c) graphically combining the at least one electrical current vector of the heart of the individual with an image of a heart of a different individual to generate a combined electrical current density map for the heart of the individual;

(d) identifying a region of the electrical current density map associated with the cardiac arrhythmia of the individual; and

(e) ablating the heart of the individual at a location corresponding to the region.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the electrical current density map is non-invasively generated.

3. The method of claim 1 , wherein the electrical current density map visually displays the at least one electrical current vector in an arrangement that represents an anatomical configuration of a heart.

4. The method of claim 3 , wherein graphically combining the at least one electrical current vector with the image of the heart comprises overlaying the at least one electrical current vector of the heart of the individual onto the image of the heart of the different individual.

5. The method of claim 4 , wherein the at least one electrical current vector is represented by an icon positioned at a spatial location of the electrical current density map corresponding to an associated anatomical position of the heart of the individual.

6. The method of claim 1 , wherein the cardiac arrhythmia comprises atrial fibrillation.

7. The method of claim 1 , wherein the electrical current density map comprises a three-dimensional image.

8. The method of claim 1 , wherein the electrical current density map comprises a plurality of distributed, spatially accurate electrical current values having dynamic, real-time parameters.

9. The method of claim 1 , wherein the image is selected from the group consisting of a computed tomography (CT) scan, a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scan, an ultrasound image, an angiogram, a nuclear scan, an X-ray image, and a fluoroscopy image.

10. The method of claim 9 , wherein the image comprises the X-ray image.

11. The method of claim 10 , wherein the X-ray image comprises a two-dimensional X-ray image.

12. The method of claim 9 , wherein the image comprises the CT scan.

13. The method of claim 1 , wherein the image comprises a three-dimensional image.

14. The method of claim 13 , wherein the three-dimensional image is generated from two or more two-dimensional X-ray images.

15. The method of claim 1 , further comprising receiving demographic data associated with the individual.

16. The method of claim 15 , wherein the demographic data comprises one or more of age, race, gender, and medical history of the individual.

17. The method of claim 16 , further comprising using the received demographic data associated with the individual to identify the image of the heart of the different individual, wherein the demographic data associated with the individual and demographic data associated with the different individual are essentially identical in the one or more of the age, the race, the gender, and the medical history.

18. The method of claim 17 , wherein the image comprises the image of the heart of the different individual.

19. The method of claim 1 , further comprising receiving biometric data associated with the individual, and identifying the region of the current density map associated with the cardiac arrhythmia based at least in part on the biometric data.

20. The method of claim 19 , wherein the biometric data comprises one or more of a heart rate, a heart rate variability, a blood pressure, a temperature, an activity level, and an electrocardiogram of the individual.

21. The method of claim 1 , further comprising receiving physiological data associated with the individual, and identifying the region of the current density map associated with the cardiac arrhythmia based at least in part on the physiological data.

22. The method of claim 21 , wherein the physiological data comprises one or more of electroencephalogram (EEG) data and electrocardiogram (ECG) data.

23. The method of claim 1 , further comprising measuring the at least one magnetic field data associated with the heart of the individual using at least one electromagnetic sensor.

24. The method of claim 23 , wherein the at least one electromagnetic sensor comprises one or more of a Superconducting Quantum Interference Device (SQUID) and an atomic magnetometer.

25. The method of claim 1 , wherein translating the at least one magnetic field data to the at least one electrical current vector comprises applying one or more of a Fourier transform, a Radon transform, and a Penrose transform to the at least one magnetic field data.

26. The method of claim 1 , wherein the measured at least one magnetic field data comprises a magnitude or a direction.

27. The method of claim 26 , wherein the measured at least one magnetic field data comprises a magnitude and a direction.
