Abstract

Certain aspects of the present disclosure relate to uplink preemption in certain systems, such as new radio (NR) systems, supporting carrier aggregation (CA) and/or multi-connectivity modes. A method for wireless communication, that can be performed by a user equipment (UE), generally includes receiving a resource assignment scheduling the UE for uplink transmission. The UE receives an indication to preempt uplink transmission on a portion of the assigned resources and determines whether to transmit on the remaining assigned resources. A method that can be performed by a base station (BS) generally includes receiving an indication from one or more UEs indicating, for each of a plurality of band combinations, a capability of the UE to transmit on a band when transmission on another band in the band combination is preempted and scheduling the one or more UEs for uplink transmission based on the indication.

Claims (38)

1. A method for wireless communications by a user equipment (UE), comprising:

communicating, to a base station, a capability of the UE to transmit on a band when transmission on another band is preempted;

receiving, from the base station, a resource assignment scheduling the UE for uplink transmission;

receiving, from the base station, an indication to preempt uplink transmission on a portion of the assigned resources comprising at least one symbol;

determining to transmit or drop uplink transmission on other symbols subsequent the at least one symbol; and

transmitting or dropping uplink transmission on the other symbols subsequent the at least one symbols based on the determining.

2. The method of claim 1 , further comprising determining to transmit or drop the uplink transmission on the other symbols subsequent the at least one symbol based on whether phase continuity can be maintained.

3. The method of claim 2 , wherein whether phase continuity can be maintained is based on a UE capability related to phase continuity.

4. The method of claim 3 , further comprising transmitting the UE capability to the base station.

5. The method of claim 1 , further comprising determining to transmit or drop the uplink transmission on the other symbols subsequent the at least one symbol based on a type of content of the other symbols subsequent the at least one symbols.

6. The method of claim 5 , wherein the type of content comprises at least one of: a demodulation reference signal (DMRS), uplink control information (UCI), or a type of UCI.

7. An apparatus for wireless communications at user equipment (UE), comprising:

a processor,

memory coupled with the processor; and

instructions stored in the memory and executable by the processor to cause the apparatus to:

communicate, to a base station, a capability of the UE to transmit on a band when transmission on another band is preempted;

receive, from the base station, a resource assignment scheduling the UE for uplink transmission;

receive, from the base station, an indication to preempt uplink transmission on a portion of the assigned resources comprising at least one symbol;

determine to transmit or drop uplink transmission on other symbols subsequent the at least one symbol; and

transmit or drop uplink transmission on the other symbols subsequent the at least one symbols based on the determining.

8. The apparatus of claim 7 , wherein the instructions stored in the memory and executable by the processor further cause the apparatus to:

determine to transmit or drop the uplink transmission on the other symbols subsequent the at least one symbol based on whether phase continuity can be maintained.

9. The apparatus of claim 8 , wherein whether phase continuity can be maintained is based on a UE capability related to phase continuity.

10. The apparatus of claim 9 , wherein the instructions stored in the memory and executable by the processor further cause the apparatus to transmit the UE capability to the base station.

11. The apparatus of claim 7 , wherein the instructions stored in the memory and executable by the processor further cause the apparatus to:

determine to transmit or drop the uplink transmission on the other symbols subsequent the at least one symbol based on a type of content of the other symbols subsequent the at least one symbols.

12. The apparatus of claim 11 , wherein the type of content comprises at least one of: a demodulation reference signal (DMRS), uplink control information (UCI), or a type of UCI.

13. An apparatus for wireless communication at User Equipment (UE), comprising:

means for communicating, to a base station, a capability of the UE to transmit on a band when transmission on another band is preempted;

means for receiving, from the base station, a resource assignment scheduling the UE for uplink transmission;

means for receiving, from the base station, an indication to preempt uplink transmission on a portion of the assigned resources comprising at least one symbol;

means for determining to transmit or drop uplink transmission on other symbols subsequent the at least one symbol; and

means for transmitting or dropping uplink transmission on the other symbols subsequent the at least one symbols based on the determining.

14. The apparatus of claim 13 , further comprising means for determining to transmit or drop the uplink transmission on the other symbols subsequent the at least one symbol based on whether phase continuity can be maintained.

15. The apparatus of claim 14 , wherein whether phase continuity can be maintained is based on a UE capability related to phase continuity.

16. The apparatus of claim 15 , further comprising means for transmitting the UE capability to the base station.

17. The apparatus of claim 13 , further comprising means for determining to transmit or drop the uplink transmission on the other symbols subsequent the at least one symbol based on a type of content of the other symbols subsequent the at least one symbols.

18. The apparatus of claim 17 , wherein the type of content comprises at least one of: a demodulation reference signal (DMRS), uplink control information (UCI), or a type of UCI.
