Abstract

Techniques (e.g., method, apparatuses, etc.) for permitting communications, e.g., optical communications are described. In one example, a first communication apparatus for the communication with a second communication device may obtain a channel state information from the reception of one or more reference signals and/or beacon signals from one or more frontends of the second apparatus. The first communication apparatus may transform the channel state information from a frequency domain to a time domain, to obtain a time domain channel state information. The first communication apparatus may encode the time domain channel state information. The first communication apparatus may transmit the time domain channel state information to one or more frontends. The first communication apparatus may transmit channel information for association and updated channel information for network coordination in a contention access period and collision-free period, CFP, respectively.

wherein the first communication apparatus is configured to update the channel information in a collision-free period, CFP.

3. The first communication apparatus of claim 1 ,

wherein the first communication apparatus is configured to transmit the channel information in a contention access period, CAP at the association with a second communication apparatus which has transmitted the one or more reference signals and/or beacon signals.

4. The first communication apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the channel information is bound to measured signal to noise ratio, SNR.

5. The first communication apparatus of claim 1 , configured to:

receive a plurality of reference signals from a plurality of frontends;

acquire the channel state information, CSI, based on an evaluation of the received reference signals,

encode the CSI, in order to provide an encoded CSI; and

provide information describing a selection of an encoding resolution used for encoding the CSI, out of a plurality of possible encoding resolutions.

6. The first communication apparatus of claim 1 , configured to find a resolution on the basis of the acquired CSI values and to provide information describing the selection of an encoding resolution, wherein the information describing the selection on the encoding resolution defines at least one of:

a tap format;

a step size of tap strength;

a step size of delay;

the strength, or a value associated thereto, of the received reference signal; and

the delay or a value associated thereto, of the received reference signal; and

an indication of the reference signal.

7. The first communication apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the first communication apparatus and the second communication apparatus are devices for performing fiber-optical or optical wireless communications.

8. A second communication apparatus, coordinated by a coordinator connected to frontends,

wherein the second communication apparatus is configured to send one or more reference signals and/or beacon signals from one or more frontends;

wherein the second communication apparatus is configured to receive the channel information,

wherein the second communication apparatus is configured to receive channel information for association and updated channel information for network coordination in a contention access period and collision-free period, CFP, respectively.

9. The second communication apparatus of claim 8 , configured to:

perform an initial, coarse synchronization among a plurality of frontends;

command a transmission of a reference signal and/or a beacon signal to the plurality of the frontends;

acquire a channel information measured by a first communication apparatus; and

subsequently, perform a second, fine synchronization on the basis of the channel information, by synchronizing the frontends.

10. The second communication apparatus of claim 9 , further configured to finely synchronize the frontends by anticipating the transmissions of the frontends suffering of higher delays, and/or by increasing the delays for the frontends suffering of lower delays,

wherein the second communication apparatus is further configured to synchronize the frontends by anticipating and/or delaying the transmissions from the frontends in proportion to their observed delays.

11. The second communication apparatus of claim 10 , wherein the first, coarse synchronization is acquired by using an internet-based protocol or by synchronizing the clock of the central unit.

12. The second communication apparatus of claim 9 , wherein the one or more reference signals and/or beacon signals comprise a pilot signal which is characteristic for the first communication apparatus and known by a second communication apparatus which has received the one or more reference signals and/or beacon signals and has transmitted the channel information.

13. The second communication apparatus of claim 9 configured to:

receive the encoded channel state information, CSI;

receive an information describing a selection of an encoding resolution used for encoding the CSI, out of a plurality of possible encoding resolutions;

decode the encoded CSI in dependence on the information describing a selection of an encoding resolution used for encoding the CSI.

14. The second communication device of claim 13 , configured to schedule the communications on the basis of a reconstructed version of the CSI.

15. The second communication apparatus of claim 13 , comprising a plurality of frontends and configured to cause them to transmit the reference signal.

16. The second communication apparatus of claim 13 , configured to decode a strength and/or delay of multiple propagation paths from the CSI according to a tap format indicated in the information describing the selection of the encoding resolution.

17. The second communication apparatus of claim 8 , wherein the frontends are configured to use the reference signal and/or a beacon signal based on different orthogonal sequences.

18. A method for the communication between a first communication apparatus and a second communication apparatus, the method comprising:

from the second communication apparatus, sending one or more reference signals and/or beacon signals from one or more frontends;

at the first communication apparatus, receiving the one or more reference signals and/or beacon signals from the one or more frontends;

at the first communication apparatus, determining a channel information on the basis of the reception of the one or more reference signals and/or beacon signals;
