Abstract

A method and a hand-held device for dermaplaning is disclosed that includes a blade assembly which includes a blade, a blade holder and a safety cage. In accordance with an important aspect of the invention, the safety cage limits the amount of penetration of the blade into the facial skin to enable the device to be safely used by non-professionals. The dermaplaning device includes a vibration generator that causes the blade to vibrate at a predetermined frequency. Various embodiments of the hand-held dermaplaning device are disclosed for vibrating the blade.

Claims (15)

1 . A blade kit for a hand-held skin treatment device, the blade kit comprising:

one or more blade assemblies having a blade holder and first and second slots extending in a longitudinal direction of the blade holder; and

a blade retainer comprising:

a retainer housing including a base;

a plurality of elongated retainer slots arranged side-by-side in the retainer housing, each retainer slot defined in part by a portion of the base and having a length and a width, the length extending in a longitudinal direction and being larger than the width, each retainer slot configured to receive a blade assembly of the one or more blade assemblies therein, each retainer slot including a first end, a second end and opposing partition walls upstanding from the base and extending continuously the length thereof from the first end to the second end of the retainer slot, each partition wall including first and second ends located at the first and second ends of the retainer slot, the partition walls separating adjacent retainer slots from each other; and

one or more retention arms located at each retainer slot between the first and second ends of the partition walls, wherein the one or more retention arms are configured to cooperate with a blade assembly of the one or more blade assemblies to releasably retain the blade assembly in the retainer slot, each retention arm of the one or more retention arms including an inwardly extending leg portion that is configured to engage the blade assembly,

wherein the one or more retention arms are located beneath the first and second slots of the blade assembly when the blade assembly is retained in the retainer slot.

2 . The blade kit of claim 1 , wherein the first end of each retainer slot is an open end and the second end of each retainer slot is a closed end.

3 . The blade kit of claim 2 , wherein the closed end is configured to receive an enlarged nose located at an end of the blade assembly.

4 . The blade kit of claim 1 , wherein the one or more retention arms of each retainer slot are a plurality of retention arms spaced apart in the longitudinal direction.

5 . The blade kit of claim 1 , wherein the one or more retention arms are configured to release the blade assembly from the retainer slot in response to application of an upward force to the blade assembly away from the retainer slot.

6 . The blade kit of claim 1 , wherein the blade retainer includes six retainer slots with a corresponding blade assembly retained therein.

7 . The blade kit of claim 1 , wherein each retainer slot is oriented to enable the blade assembly to be loaded directly onto the skin treatment device without requiring a user to touch the blade assembly.

8 . The blade kit of claim 1 , wherein the blade retainer has a shape with a major axis and a minor axis, the retainer slots being arranged transverse to the major axis.

9 . The blade kit of claim 1 , wherein each of the first and second slots are configured to slidably receive first and second rails, respectively, of the skin treatment device.
