RENTAL VEHICLE SYSTEM OPTIMIZATION
Techniques are described for optimizing various aspects of rental vehicle systems. According to an embodiment, a dynamic car scheduling system is described. The system comprises a memory that stores computer executable components, and a processor that executes the computer executable components stored in the memory. These computer executable components comprise a booking component that accepts bookings for rental vehicles from a fleet of rental vehicles based on a determination that a schedule of vehicle assignments assigning the rental vehicles to the bookings is achievable at booking time that satisfies first fixed criteria for the bookings. The computer executable components further comprise a dynamic scheduling component that dynamically adjusts the schedule after the booking time based on reception of new booking requests for the rental vehicles by rearranging the vehicle assignments in a manner that satisfies the first fixed criteria and second fixed criteria for the new booking requests.
1 . A system that facilitates navigating a touch screen, comprising:
a memory that stores computer executable components; and
a processor that executes the computer executable components stored in the memory, wherein the computer executable components comprise:
a booking component that accepts bookings for rental vehicles from a fleet of rental vehicles based on a determination that a schedule of vehicle assignments to the bookings that satisfies first fixed criteria for the bookings is achievable at booking time; and
a dynamic scheduling component that dynamically adjusts the schedule after the booking time based on reception of new booking requests for the rental vehicles by rearranging the vehicle assignments in a manner that satisfies the first fixed criteria and second fixed criteria for the new booking requests.
2 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the dynamic scheduling component further adjusts the schedule by rearranging the vehicle assignments in a manner that minimizes cost attributed to utilization of the fleet.
3 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the dynamic scheduling component further adjusts the schedule by rearranging the vehicle assignments in a manner that minimizes an amount of unfulfilled booking requests for the rental vehicles.
4 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the first fixed criteria and the second fixed criteria include a rental vehicle type and a rental timeslot, and wherein the schedule of vehicle assignments ensures a requested vehicle type is available for a requested timeslot.
5 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the fleet is distributed between different stations, and wherein the schedule of vehicle assignments ensures a requested vehicle type is available for a requested timeslot at a requested station of the different stations.
6 . The system of claim 5 , wherein the rearranging comprises determining one or more movements of the rental vehicles between the different stations that results in ensuring the requested vehicle type is available for the requested timeslot at the requested station.
7 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the dynamic scheduling component further adjusts the schedule to account for changes in availability status of the rental vehicles.
8 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the rearranging further comprises determining one or more changes to the first fixed criteria that facilitate rearranging the vehicle assignments in a manner that satisfies the second fixed criteria.
9 . The system of claim 8 , wherein the computer executable components further comprise:
an incentive component that provides incentives to renters of the bookings for accepting the one or more changes.
10 . A method, comprising:
accepting, by a system operatively coupled to a processor, bookings for rental vehicles from a fleet of rental vehicles based on a determination that a schedule of vehicle assignments to the bookings that satisfies first fixed criteria for the bookings is achievable at booking time; and
dynamically adjusting, by the system, the schedule after the booking time based on reception of new booking requests for the rental vehicles by rearranging the vehicle assignments in a manner that satisfies the first fixed criteria and second fixed criteria for the new booking requests.
11 . The method of claim 10 , wherein the rearranging further comprises rearranging the vehicle assignments in a manner that minimizes cost attributed to utilization of the fleet.
12 . The method of claim 10 , wherein the first fixed criteria and the second fixed criteria include a rental vehicle type and a rental timeslot, and wherein the schedule of vehicle assignments ensures a requested vehicle type is available for a requested timeslot.
13 . The method of claim 10 , wherein the fleet is distributed between different stations, and wherein the schedule of vehicle assignments ensures a requested vehicle type is available for a requested timeslot at a requested station of the different stations.
14 . The method of claim 13 , wherein the rearranging comprises determining one or more movements of the rental vehicles between the different stations that results in ensuring the requested vehicle type is available for the requested timeslot at the requested station.
15 . The method of claim 10 , wherein the rearranging further comprises adjusting the schedule to account for changes in availability status of the rental vehicles.
16 . The method of claim 10 , wherein the rearranging further comprises determining one or more changes to the first fixed criteria that facilitate rearranging the vehicle assignments in a manner that satisfies the second fixed criteria.
17 . The method of claim 16 , further comprising:
providing, by the system, incentives to renters of the bookings for accepting the one or more changes.
18 . A machine-readable storage medium, comprising executable instructions that, when executed by a processor, facilitate performance of operations, comprising:
accepting bookings for rental vehicles from a fleet of rental vehicles based on a determination that a schedule of vehicle assignments to the bookings that satisfies first fixed criteria for the bookings is achievable at booking time; and
dynamically adjusting the schedule after the booking time based on reception of new booking requests for the rental vehicles by rearranging the vehicle assignments in a manner that satisfies the first fixed criteria and second fixed criteria for the new booking requests.
19 . The machine-readable storage medium of claim 18 , wherein the rearranging further comprises rearranging the vehicle assignments in a manner that minimizes cost attributed to utilization of the fleet.
20 . The machine-readable storage medium of claim 18 , wherein the first fixed criteria and the second fixed criteria include a rental vehicle type and a rental timeslot, and wherein the schedule of vehicle assignments ensures a requested vehicle type is available for a requested timeslot.
