Abstract

A filter has a filter center tube that includes a plurality of layers of solidified material including a first layer with a first undulating strip of solidified material extending in a first predetermined direction, and a second layer with a second undulating strip of solidified material extending in a second predetermined direction. The first layer is in contact with the second layer and the first predetermined direction is not parallel with the second predetermined direction, forming a plurality of pores therebetween.

Claims (12)

1. A filter comprising:

a housing including an outer wall and an inner wall, wherein the outer wall and the inner wall define the same longitudinal axis, the inner wall defines a radial direction that passes through the longitudinal axis and that is perpendicular thereto, and a circumferential direction that is tangential to the radial direction and perpendicular to the longitudinal axis, and the inner wall is spaced radially away from the outer wall, the housing further defining a first end and a second end disposed along the longitudinal axis and a hollow interior;

an inlet in fluid communication with the hollow interior;

an outlet in fluid communication with the hollow interior;

a filter center tube disposed in the hollow interior comprising a plurality of layers; and

a cylindrical filter media disposed radially between the filter center tube and the outer wall, wherein:

each layer includes an undulating strip of solidified material; and

the undulating strip of each layer defines a plurality of pores between adjacent portions of the undulating strip, the plurality of pores having a minimum dimension less than 200 μm.

2. The filter of claim 1 , wherein the filter center tube includes an annular shape defining an outer annular region and an inner annular region and the hollow interior includes an outer annular chamber in fluid communication with the inlet and the outer annular region of the filter center tube and a central cylindrical void concentric about the longitudinal axis that is in fluid communication with the outlet and the inner annular region of the filter center tube.

3. The filter of claim 1 , wherein the filter media includes folded fabric having apertures.

4. The filter of claim 3 , wherein the apertures define larger sized dimensions compared to the pores of the filter center tube.

5. The filter of claim 1 , wherein the filter media is also formed using layers of solidified material.
