Abstract

An object processing system is disclosed for unloading objects from a trailer of a tractor trailer. The object processing system includes an engagement system including a truck entry portion for entering the trailer and for indiscriminately engaging unidentified objects within the trailer, and a conveyance system for conveying objects engaged by the engagement system toward an unloading portion of the trailer.

Claims (35)

1. A non-ordered method of engaging objects in a trailer of a tractor trailer, comprising:

moving an engagement structure into the trailer, the engagement structure including a substantially planar engagement surface that extends substantially along a full inner width of the trailer;

engaging unidentified objects with the substantially planar engagement surface of the engagement structure, said objects being engaged indiscriminately such that no order of engagement of the objects is selected; and

conveying the objects in an indiscriminate sequence out of the trailer using an extendable chute coupled to the engagement structure,

wherein the extendable chute extends in response to the engagement structure moving into the trailer.

2. The method as claimed in claim 1 , wherein the engagement structure includes at least one perception unit providing perception data.

3. The method as claimed in claim 1 , wherein the method further includes transporting the objects from the trailer to a distribution location.

4. The method as claimed in claim 3 , wherein the distribution location includes an object processing system within another tractor trailer.

5. The method as claimed in claim 3 , wherein the method further includes singulating the indiscriminate sequence of objects.

6. The method as claimed in claim 5 , wherein the method further includes dropping singulated objects through a drop scanner, the drop scanner providing object perception data regarding each object as it falls through the drop scanner.

7. The method as claimed in claim 6 , wherein the method further includes routing each object in any of a plurality of routing paths responsive to object perception data associated with each object.

8. The method as claimed in claim 7 , wherein the method further includes presenting processed objects at any of a plurality of access locations in a trailer of a further tractor trailer.

9. A non-ordered method of engaging objects in a trailer of a tractor trailer, comprising:

moving an engagement structure into the trailer, the engagement structure including an engagement surface and at least one front guide coupled thereto, wherein the engagement surface and the at least one front guide extend substantially along a full inner width of the trailer;

engaging unidentified objects with the engagement surface of the engagement structure, wherein any unidentified objects near a side wall inside of the trailer is urged towards the engagement surface by the at least one front guide, said objects being engaged indiscriminately; and

conveying the objects in an indiscriminate sequence out of the trailer.

10. The method as claimed in claim 9 , wherein the engagement structure includes a plurality of perception units, each of which provides the perception data.

11. The method as claimed in claim 9 , wherein the engagement surface is substantially planar.

12. The method as claimed in claim 9 , wherein the method further includes transporting the objects from the trailer to a distribution location.

13. The method as claimed in claim 12 , wherein the distribution location includes an object processing system within another tractor trailer.

14. The method as claimed in claim 12 , wherein the method further includes singulating the indiscriminate sequence of objects.

15. The method as claimed in claim 14 , wherein the method further includes dropping singulated objects through a drop scanner, the drop scanner providing object perception data regarding each object as it falls through the drop scanner.

16. The method as claimed in claim 15 , wherein the method further includes routing each object in any of a plurality of routing paths responsive to object perception data associated with each object.

17. The method as claimed in claim 16 , wherein the method further includes presenting processed objects at any of a plurality of access locations in a trailer of a further tractor trailer.

18. A method of processing non-ordered objects in a trailer of a tractor trailer, comprising:

moving an engagement structure into the trailer, the engaging structure including an engagement surface that extends substantially along a full inner width of the trailer;

engaging unidentified objects with the engagement surface of the engagement structure, said objects being engaged indiscriminately such that no order of engagement of the objects is selected;

conveying the objects in an indiscriminate sequence out of the trailer;

transporting the indiscriminate sequence of objects from the trailer to a distribution location within a further tractor trailer;

singulating the indiscriminate sequence of objects into singulated objects;

dropping the singulated objects through a drop scanner that provides object perception data regarding each object that falls as the object falls through the drop scanner; and

routing each object in any of a plurality of routing paths to any of a plurality of access locations in the further tractor trailer responsive to the object perception data associated with each object.

19. The method as claimed in claim 18 , wherein the engagement structure includes at least one perception unit providing perception data.

20. The method as claimed in claim 18 , wherein the engagement surface is substantially planar.

21. The method as claimed in claim 18 , further comprising automatically bagging each object at a respective access location in the further tractor trailer.
