Abstract

A system includes a circuit configured to detect a voltage corresponding to an electrical measurement of a nanopore. The system also includes a component configured to compare the voltage to another voltage. Based at least in part on the comparison, a one bit indicator is determined. The one bit indicator indicates whether the voltage indicates a change in a state of the nanopore. In the event it is determined that the voltage indicates the change in the state of the nanopore, a multiple bit signal is provided for output.

Claims (24)

1. A system, comprising:

a circuit configured to measure a first current at a first time, the first current corresponding to an electrical measurement of a nanopore, the circuit further configured to measure a second current at a second time, the second current corresponding to a second electrical measurement of the same nanopore; and

a component configured to compare the first current to the second current;

wherein based at least in part on the comparison of the first and second currents, a nanopore state change indicator is configured to determine whether a difference between the first current and the second current indicates a change in a state of the nanopore, and based at least in part on the determination of the nanopore state change indicator, it is periodically determined whether to provide as output a nanopore measurement value that can be used for a subsequent identification of a tag or molecule or to save data bandwidth by not outputting the nanopore measurement value.

2. The system of claim 1 , wherein the change in the state of the nanopore indicates a nanopore event.

3. The system of claim 1 , wherein the system is included in a biochip.

4. The system of claim 1 , wherein the second current is a previous current measurement corresponding to a previous electrical measurement of the nanopore.

5. The system of claim 1 , wherein the second current corresponds an open-channel state of the nanopore.

6. The system of claim 1 , wherein the first current is one of a sequence of currents detected at a periodic interval.

7. The system of claim 1 , wherein the nanopore state change indicator is a one bit indicator.

8. The system of claim 1 , wherein the comparison of the first and second currents includes determining whether the difference between the first and second currents is above a threshold value.

9. The system of claim 1 , wherein the comparison of the first and second currents includes determining whether the difference is within a specified value range.

10. The system of claim 1 , wherein the nanopore measurement value includes a value of the difference between the first current and the second current.

11. The system of claim 1 , wherein the change in the state of the nanopore is a change in the state of the nanopore from an open-channel state to a threaded state.

12. The system of claim 1 , wherein the change in the state of the nanopore is a change in the state of the nanopore from a first threaded state to a second threaded state or to an open-channel state.

13. The system of claim 1 , wherein determining the nanopore state change indicator includes determining whether the first current corresponds to a threaded state of the nanopore.

14. The system of claim 1 , wherein the nanopore state change indicator is concatenated with a plurality of other one bit indicators corresponding to a plurality of other nanopores.

15. The system of claim 1 , wherein in the event it is determined that the first current does not indicate the change in the state of the nanopore, it is determined to not output a value of the first current.

16. The system of claim 1 , wherein the circuit is configured to measure the first current and second current at a sampling rate that is based at least in part on a duration of time in which the nanopore is expected to remain in a state.

17. A method, comprising:

measuring a first current corresponding to an electrical measurement of a nanopore;

comparing the first current measured at a first time to a second current corresponding to a second electrical measurement of the same nanopore measured at a second time;

determining, based at least in part on the comparison of the first and second currents measured at different times, a change in state of the nanopore with a nanopore state change indicator; and

based at least in part on the determination of the nanopore state change indicator, periodically determining whether to provide as output a nanopore measurement value that can be used for a subsequent identification of a tag or molecule or save data bandwidth by not outputting the nanopore measurement value.
