Abstract

The invention relates to a nutritional composition comprising human milk oligosaccharide (HMO) having an effect on in a mammal to improve, enhance, promote or modulate a GABAergic function in the CNS, preferably in a human infant or a young children between birth and 7 years. The composition can be an infant formula. The HMO may be 2FL, diFL and/or LNT and or LNnT or combinations thereof.

Claims (15)

1. A method for improving, enhancing, promoting or modulating a) a GABAergic function in the central nervous system (CNS) or b) filtering of information or the capacity to focus or concentrate on a mental or physical activity in a mammal suffering from a health status or disease related to GABAergic function, the method comprising:

administering a nutritional composition comprising an effective amount of a combination of a bovine milk oligosaccharide (BMO) and a human milk oligosaccharide (HMO) to the mammal suffering from the health status or disease related to GABAergic function,

wherein the HMO comprises a combination of 2′fucosyllactose (2FL) and lacto-N-neotetraose (LNnT).

2. The method according to claim 1 , wherein the GABAergic function in the CNS comprises filtering of information or a capacity to focus or concentrate on a mental or physical activity.

3. The method according to claim 1 , wherein the HMO is present in an amount of from 0.01 to 50 g/L of the nutritional composition.

4. The method according to claim 1 , wherein the nutritional composition further comprises a prebiotic.

5. The method according to claim 1 , wherein the mammal is selected from the group consisting of a human, a pet, a cat and a dog.

6. The method according to claim 1 , wherein the nutritional composition is selected from the group consisting of an infant formula, a follow on formula, a human milk fortifier, a growing up milk, and a pet food or supplement.

7. A method for treating at least one condition selected from the group consisting of attention deficit disorders, hyperactivity disorders, autism spectrum disorders, and schizophrenia in a mammal having the at least one condition, the method comprising:

administering a nutritional composition comprising an effective amount of a combination of a bovine milk oligosaccharide (BMO) and a human milk oligosaccharide (HMO) to the mammal having the at least one condition,

wherein the HMO comprises a combination of 2′fucosyllactose (2FL) and lacto-N-neotetraose (LNnT).

8. The method according to claim 7 , wherein the HMO is present in an amount from 0.01 to 50 g/L of the nutritional composition.

9. The method according to claim 7 , wherein the nutritional composition comprises a prebiotic.

10. The method according to claim 7 , wherein the mammal is selected from the group consisting of a human, a pet, a cat and a dog.

11. The method according to claim 7 , wherein the nutritional composition is selected from the group consisting of an infant formula, a follow on formula, a human milk fortifier, a growing up milk, and a pet food or supplement.
